Any of you people ever hunt over in Klikatat County? The Grayback unit is open for any elk, I believe. What's it like? Have you run into any jerks? How is it for bear hunting?

The area around St. Helens that opened up after the mountain blew seemed to have about 50% idiots and jerks, if you know what I mean.

I don't like hunting around those kind of folks.

Just looking for info.

Hog, I've hunted deer over there for the last 5 seasons. We have done pretty good too. I have seen plenty of elk and bear sign, but no animals. I have talked to plenty of local old timers who say there are plenty of elk around but you're gonna have to put in your time to even see one.

There are jerks everywhere, but most of the guy's and gals I have dealt with are pretty cool people. It does get crowded during deer season, but alot of it is Boise Cascade land with gated off roads. If you are willing to put a few miles in the hunting can be great.

Also, don't count on a campfire as there is allways a burn ban going on over there.

I hope this helps.

There are some elk in the northern part of the unit towards Glenwood. Not near the numbers of St. Helens area but I think it is still either sex. Lots of gated land to get away from people.
