Looking for recomendations of skippers to go salmon fishing with at Westport. All the skippers I deckhanded for 35 yrs ago are gone now. Would appreciate any info. Thanks

I really like Brett on the Slammer, good skipper & a good guy.

He saved my brand stinking new XST 1085c & new Revo inshore that went in the drink w/ a spectacular one handed stab on the net..... I lost that king but got my rod/reel back.

Gotta watch those drag settings w/ running 40 PowerPro !!

Kevin and Rhett are both great.

I would also add:

Brian Mirante, Sea Angel
Steve Westerick, Hula Girl
Ken Culver, Tequila Too
Robert Mirante, Starfire (Robert had captained this boat for the previous owner)

Lots of good ones... it's the bad ones you need to know about.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Should have a Westport web site........."RATE THE SKIPPER", wouldn't take long, to weed the "bad ones out".

I remember hearing the story of how he took the rod out of the hands of Fish Jesus when Steve wasn't fighting the fish properly. That is one guy to avoid.

I'll second that, guys a real piece of work (or piece of something), I let him know what I thought of his yelling at kids and jerking rods out of their hands when they didn't fight a fish the way he wanted or expected. He wouldn't last long at the resort I work at.

I have fished out of Westport for 40 years. I use to live and work out there. My old time favorite Captains were Robin Turley and Dave Stokeberry. I now fish with Dave Camp and have for the past 10 years. He 's a good guy and "Always" works hard to find fish.

I fish with Kevin on the Gold Rush, Dave on Discovery and Chuck aboard Freedom. All very fine operations and very fine boats.

The skipper is only half the question, the other half is how good is the deckhand? Can he rig a herring that can spin for more than a minute? Lots of soft bait down there again this year and the ability to hook up a whole herring that spins well is a must.

Gold Rush, Kevin. I believe the deckhand is his kid.

I recommend Dave Camp/Discovery. His deckhand's name is Buzz. He's a good kid, mellow attitude but knows what he's doing and seems to he at the right place at the right time.

Treefarmer, you are right on there. Hopefully a good skipper wouldn't put up with a less than adequate deckhand. I appreciate all of the recomendations, now just to make the reservations.

Went to elementary school in Renton with some Mirante Boys, I think they are cousins down there in Westport but they have deep roots in fishing.

I remember when we were little those guys coming to class smellin like fish. Little did I know how much I would learn to love the salmon smell.
