I will start by saying I do not own any stocks or bonds other than what may be involved in my retirement plan. (personally I think it is one of the biggest scams that favors the wealthy over the little guy,but thats another post ). I just read an article on MSN that was headed : Stocks plunge on worries over stock worries. My question is for you investers , with the market (DOW) sitting just under 13000, why is a daily drop of 180 +/- points such big news? Once the big clints have sold off some stocks to get the little guys to follow suit, they will just buy inagain in a day or two and profit again on the small investors insecurity. So how much of a daily drop does it take to get your attention? Thanks .

99.99% of investers do not have enough invested in the market to worry about daily fluctuations. I have quite a bit in the market because I believe long term it's a good investment.

If you plan to sell today, a drop is an issue if it affects the stock you wish to sell negatively. If you have a long term plan, daily fluctuations really mean nothing, unless you are easily influenced into selling.
Somebody out there has a lot of shorts, just waiting for a price drop, and the media frenzy feeds their profits. That is who benefits from price drops.

Somebody out there has a lot of shorts I do. That way I don't have to do laundry so often.

Tell us Dave, since you love to do so when the markets' "up", how much did you make today? Come on buddy....rub it in our face. But keep in mind you're much closer to needin' those retirement funds than I am. You're into buyin' non-producing stocks so I imagine facebook is jerkin' you off like you've never been jerked.

I'm sure Dave didn't lose money since he didn't (probably) sell. Just like he never makes money because he doesn't sell. It's his charade to validate his contribution to stock market threads.
He's just not as fair and balanced (evenhanded) as he pretends to be.
INOW...he's Full-O-Chit.

I've gotten good return investing in fishing trips.
Money is worthless until you spend it. So true! I took money out of my 401K to buy the Sea Kitten. It's great to be alive, even if all I do is fish the Sound!
