Late season Elk for archery opens in select areas on the 19 of November. The areas I am considering hunting are the Goodman and Clearwater areas. However, there is a 3-point minimum in those areas. I have never hunted elk before and was wondering the best tactics for getting close to bulls at this time of year, after the rut has been over and the temperature has cooled way down. Will they still respond to calls? What type? Would love some help on planning a strategy for success. Brass

Brass,
Those areas can be productive. Calls will not be effective however. This time of year bulls are not interested in their cows anymore. Your big bulls are going to be by themselves or with other bulls. I don't recommend using calls. A cow chirp may be a last resort but don't expect the bulls to come charging. Just stay quiet, hunt into the wind, and hope to get lucky. You never know when that big boy is going to be right ahead.

Good luck,
Chrome

The cow call will still be very effective for calming the herd. Cows and calves will actually come in to the call any time of the year. Bulls, however will not. They will calm down if you spook them if you give a soft cow call. I use it year round.
