My best friend (Portland) recently got me into plunking for Salmon on the Oregon side of the Columbia. I am now in love and want to get into Salmon fishing in WA since I live in Tacoma. I really want to get over to the peninsula and try to find some Chinook but I have no idea if I'm better off heading to the coast, sound or a river. Something about shore fishing near Neah Bay or LaPush attract me but I have no idea where I should go. Any suggestions?

Wait until August 1 and then start fishing the Puyallup for Kings. Everyone bashes the Puyallup but it is a river like any other and it has quality fish.

Yes, in Washington a 12 pound fish weighs 12 pounds, not 20. We don't mess with little minnows that size here in Orygun, Most of what we catch here is 25 lbs up.

Thank you for the advice. I do appreciate it but I'm not waiting for a month or more to go. Even if I get skunked the time with my line in the water with my best friend and Son is worth it. I will be going this weekend. I think I might hit the Skok, still looking around though.

Skok doesnt open up for salmon untill the 10th of August, you would be better off hitting the Puyallup as stated in 2 ish weeks when it opens up on the 1st...
or go fish off one of the Piers, some fish are being caught...

So I was going to ask about the Puyallup, but since it got brought up here - I might as well ask now.
I just started a job near the river and I can hit the river before / after work. What's the standard routine and game plan for that river? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. THanks,

standard routine: ALOT of people on the lower river, you will have to bring 3 cases of patience with you...
gameplan: bring eggs with you, depending on where your at, you should be hitting the far bank... drift em through there, and you should be able to get out of there with atleast 1 fish before people see what your doing and jump in your pockets...
where about are you thinking of fishing it?
