I saw this done on a different board and today I thought why not do it to my 6 Folbe rod holders.

I very much like my holders but hate the locking system they have on them. And, I've lost two overboard so it is also costly. The zip ties I had keeping mine from being lost looked terrible.

Went to the hardware store and bought 6 springs. Don't ask what size they are as I don't know. They were a buck a piece so pretty cheap. Not sure if they are stainless steel or not and I forgot to put a magnet on them to tell.

Drilled 2 1/8 inch holes and pop riveted the little springs to the Folbe base. They now work great and are always in the locked position. This is so simple to do.

Sorry for the blurry picture but that's the way it is for now. I forgot to put the camera on macro setting and not gonna take them off the boat and take a better picture.

Definitely gonna do that. I like the idea of the rivets instead of screws.

1/8th inch rivets worked perfectly. There is a bump on the face of the base that hangs up the slide when closed. It hung up on it so I just took my knife and whittled it off and then it slide closed like it is supposed to do.

On a couple the rivet stuck through the face of the base so I just took my grinder and sanded them down a bit. It would hang up a bit but not now!

Good to know. I'll double check all the locks before we leave the ramp this weekend.

I have been told that I am running the last side mounts that wont be auto locking now. We have a couple of designs that we are toying with. Other new items will be out soon.

I just love getting home from work and finding more work. Now I need to get ready to head up to Neah for some product testing.

Sorry Achewter. Now, if you can find some stainless steel springs we can use them down here in beautiful downtown Hoquiam. I can measure the size we need!!!!!!
