yeah i have decided hat i won't be giving up my 270wsm anytime soon. i took it out friday and sighted in my new scope and man i love it. only thing is that i wish i could get a neavier grain bullets then 160's for elk. thats the heaviest i have found. so i think i will be buying the new 325wsm for elk.
oh and now this weekends report. hunted gmu460 saturday and seen 3 bucks my self but didn't shoot cause i was jumping them in vine maple. my dad shot at a spike. but with his 303. and peep sights and the deer walking away at 100 yards. it just didn't want hit. lol. he always misses at least once a season before he gets his deer.
sunday hunted vale. and that place sucks this year. when we left there was 12 deer for 400+ hunters. not very good. and yesterday was even worse. but i did manage to miss a spike. 50 yards in trees running away from me. i think it has to do with me not use to hunting with a scope.

But whatever works for you. Is there such a thing as too dead? IMO a .338 is a better choice than a .270WSM for shots less than 200yds. The .338 uses bullets designed for game heavier than deer, and typically leaves less bloodshot meat than a lighter, faster bullet like the WSMs use.

was hunting about 5 miles outside of vail, walked in about 3 miles behind the gate, brother shot an old nontypical...3 on one side with one of those a drop-tine, the other was taller and wider, with slight palmation at the fork(6.25" circumference)...took it in to the checkstation down the road into vail and the wdfw boilogist there(i think it was mccallister)estimated the buck to be an astonishing 8-9 years old...should probably eat up like rubber...he said it was the biggest one they've seen so far this year(as of sunday 24th)..relatively slow in vail this year but i've seen a good number of deer, an average of about 8 a day...i can only hunt there in moderation, although it is only 15 minutes away-plenty of other real nice gated walkins close by, nearest on being 400 yards from my driveway..i'll work on getting a photo up

i'm buying a NEW RIFLE FOR ELK AND WILL BE GETTING THE 325 WSM OR A 7MM WSM WHAT EVER RUGER HAS. CAUSE I WAS SHOOTING MY FRIENDS 308 RUGER AND FELL IN LOVE. ITS WAY BETTER THEN THAT POS REMINGTON 700 SPS I JUST BAUGHT.
BUT I DO LIKE THE 270 WSM CALIBER. SO I WILL KEEP IT AS A DEER GUN. OR LET MY DAD HAVE IT. I JUST DON'T LIKE THAT GUN FOR SOME REASON. SO WHAT A PERFECT CHANCE TO SPEND MORE MONEY.

I'm a 30-06 fan. I shoot Hornady Light Magnums in 165 and I'm in the zone holding dead on out to 350 yards. This gun/load have dropped caribou/elk/mulies/blacktail in their tracks out to 275 for me. It's all about shot placement.

Hunted above Leavenworth. Saw about 30 doe a day. Lots of bucks taken both weekends. Got a nice 3x3 with eyeguards last Friday. Took a 27" 4x4 from same area last year. 2005 2004
