Does anyone here know of any decent duck hunting spots within about a 1 hour drive from puyallup. At this time I only know of 1 spot and it isn't that productive.

Any info is appreciated, Thanks!

floatandjig - I used to duck hunt quite a bit down at the mouth of the Nisqually, probably a half hour south of Puyallup. There are usually a gazillion birds down there, but most of them are on the refuge. But with all the birds in the area, it can be really good if you get some weather to get them flying around.

One added bonus about the Nisqually - it's got an amazing late (Dec.-Jan.) chum run. Something to keep you occupied when the birds aren't flying. You have to dodge the nets, but there seem to be plenty of fish to go around. We've taken some fish around the mouth in late December that are still saltwater bright.

Do you hunt from a boat or on foot? I've heard its a boat show only.

Thanks

True - you don't need to hunt from the boat, but you need the boat to get from the parking lot to the hunting areas.

The boat launch is called Luhr's Landing, at the mouth of Macallister Creek. It's on the west side of the Nisqually delta, with the Nisqually itself being on the east side.

If the weather was nasty, I may think twice about crossing the open water in front of the delta in a small boat, but you can always hunt up Macallister Creek. Don't let the name fool you - the Creek is pretty deep and muddy where you hunt. Be warned that the Creek can get crowded, especially on weekend mornings.
