hey,
there guys just wondering what caliber of guns you all hunt with. I use a ruger ss 338 win mag or a 50 cal muzzleloader. Those are my favorite two rifles. What are yours.

Savage 270, CZ in 6mm Rem, and Browning A-bolt 338 win mag. That about handles the rifles at the moment. I think I need more. ;\)

Remington 700 .270, bought 30-odd years ago with paper route money, has taken lot's of game and is dear to my heart....recently picked up a Ruger 77 .270 that now has 2 deer for 2 shots....also a .50 cal T/C White Mountain Carbine that got my doe last year....love it's small size/weight, it's also taken elk, but I think if I were more serious about the elk I'd get a .54...."Power-Belt" bullets rule! For optics on my modern weapons I like Burris or Redfield scopes, 4x or 2x7. Frankly, I see little use for anything more than say, 6 power. I hunt my whitetails on 3x and my muleys on 4x or 5x.

I've always thought that would make an excellent blacktail gun for hunting timber.

I shoot a vanilla Savage in .270win.

The Deerslayer I have is the new model they came out with a few years back with the rotary magazine like the 10/22, but less capacity. It is number #239 to come off of the line and I have taken two deer and 5 or 6 coyotes with it, and my nephew got his first deer with it.

The hot Hornady loads in 240 and 300 grain weights are perfect for deer, and you don't feel the recoil at all. Load a single round at a time, with none in the magazine, and it is a perfect gun for my boys to use when they get their first deer.

It is a good 100-150 yard gun. Perfect for the timber.

I'm with Moe - I shoot a model 700 BDL in .270. I went through a few different rifles before getting to this one - it's been a great gun for everything from javelina to elk, although I mainly deer hunt.

Deer I use my Model 700 Mtn rifle in .280, Great gun. For Elk the past few years I have been carrying my Remington Classic in .300 WBY another great shooter with handloads. Looking at buying a .257 Roberts for deer hunting, if nothing else just to have a decent reason to buy another gun.

I won a .300 Wby Mag Ultralight S/S at a banquet.
I put a Swarovski 3-10 on it.
It's been a great gun taking many animals from Blacktails to Kodiak Brown Bear.
In reality though, if I were just a deer hunter I think anything in the .270 win category is just fine.
I love to Bowhunt too!
I shoot a Bowtech Allegiance.

Last year I bought a .243 WSSM to hunt deer with.
The year before that I shot a Swedish 6.5x55 that I sporterized.
Year before that was .30-06 AI that I built from Mauser 98 Action.
Year before that was Savage 110 in .270.
Year before that was Contender in 7x30 Waters.
I have lots of years to go back but will quit there.

I am not sure for next year. If I get a doe tag, I may try a Freedom Arms revolver in .41 mag.

Winchester Model 70 chambered in .264 Winchester Magnum. It's well over 20 years old and still in minty condition.
It's a BOOMER!

Then for the two-legged variety, a Mossberg Model 590 Military.

For the venison, a Sako Finnbear in 270 Win. The rockchucks get the attention of a 222 Remington Magnum in a Sako Vixen, the L461 action. All old hardware. Early 60s vintage.

I shoot a mod 700 bdl in 30.06 and use the Hornady Light Magnums in 165 grain. Besides my muzzle loader and shotguns it's my only rifle. To date it has taken 8 deer,2 caribou and 3 elk.

Actually, 7.62x39 Soviet is a really good deer round, especially in dense timber or where you aren't looking at shots beyond 200 yards.

Just remember to use soft point ammo and a 5 rnd mag.

The rifle Ive been carrying more is a 6.5mm Swede mauser. Its a real tack driver.

More than one deer has been taken with my SKS. That 7.62x39 is a sleeper round.

I have not shot big game (Eastern Wa.WhiteTail) in over 15 years, just upland bird hunting, and so I had let all of my rifles go. A Ruger No. 1A Lt/Wt sporter in .270win, a Ruger M-77 RSI in .243 to a close friend, a Ruger M-77 RL in .250-3000, and a Win Mod 70 / .270 to the kids, and wham no big guns in the safe. So I've started a project gun to back-fill the safe...

Base gun - Benelli 20gage Montefletro SemiAuto
Scope - 2x7 Leupold VX-II
Mount - Remington Canti-Lever Rib Mount
Bullits - Federal Premium 3in mag sabot's

She's on the paper nicely at a hundred yards, and we will be tweaking her in over the next week or two at the range. So far so good...

My dad bought me a Remington 30.06 when I was 17 & I've used it to kill tons of deer & elk. Now some 25 years later I just got a Tikka .300wsm for the fun of it. I'll be doing some killing this year to break it in.
