Fellow muzzleloaders,

I shoot the Remington 700ML stainless barrel inline. Up till now I've had excellent success with Pyrodex RS for deer but I'm getting weary of the cleanup and residue Pyrodex leaves...enough so I fight some rust on my stainless barrel. It's not for lack of maintenance. She gets a thorough breakdown and cleaning after every hunt.

I've heard Triple 7 is a good equivalent firing powder but supposedly burns cleaner.

Anyone care to shed some light on this from personal experience? And which Triple 7 is Pyrodex RS's equivalent?

Thanks!....only 4-5 months to go!

You can shoot the 777 if ya want. i tried it. But i do not like it. It cakes in your barrel. 3 shots and you really need to scrub it.
It also needs more heat to properly fire it. They recomend the shotgun primers.

That is my 2 cents. Pyrodex has never let me down. I stick to that.

Bigtule,

Interesting! I hadn't heard of the caking issues you describe but that is good to know. I too am sticking with Pyrodex until I get convinced otherwise......just wanted to get some feedback from guys who have used 777 for comparison purposes.

Look at the archives at hunt america . com there have been alot of discussions on it... go to the inline discussion forum. These guys know more than i will ever know.

I do know that my knight big horn doesn't like it. It starts throwing shots after the 2nd shot if i do not clean it. God forbid i have to take a 3rd shot... No probs with pyrodex. ever...

Thats interesting Big Tule.

I noticed the same thing with my Bighorn.

I was starting to think I was having a bad day with the shakes till I reloaded with Pyrodex.

Unfortunately it took me several shots to figure out the problem was in the powder.
