Work got in the way and I had to cancel my hunt this weekend at the last minute. So I need to get my fill from others...anybody get one yet?

I told my boss that I'm going Thursday night regardless, so hopefully I'll have some good news by this point next week.

Hit one of my honey holes out on the coast for the opener. Saturday was terrible as the fog was thicker than I had ever seen it. Couldn't see more than 50 yards at any one time. My buddy and I stuck it out for the entire day waiting for it to lift...but it never did. Saw a ton of sign from the night before so we knew we were in the right area, just couldn't see the buggers. Frustrating to say the least. We knew the weather was suppose to change for today and did it ever!

Woke up to a relentless driving rain and wind. Not the funnest stuff to hunt in, but at least we could see. About 7:30 I spotted a nice buck in a brush patch and positioned myself to take a shot. Just as I get the bipod down and the scope on him...he takes a couple steps and just like that he's gone. Tried tracking him, but never saw him again. Looked to be a solid three point. frown Rest of the day we saw a fair number of does and one small spike we passed on. Oh well, this area has always produced, so I'll be out there next weekend.

yup. interesting little buck. lets see what you guys think.

something not quite right with this whitetail. notice the complete lack of eyeguards.

check out the tail

not the best pics of the tail, but i've never seen a whitetail where the base of the tail was less than 5" across. this one is about 3".

i don't know much about the hybridization of mule deer and whitetails in the wild population, if anyone knows anything, i'd love to hear it. the deer was killed in n.e. washington (gmu 121) there are muleys in the area.

Yes it is a crossbred deer as far as I can see. We have a few around here in the south Okanogan. I see more of it in does than bucks but none the less great deer and congrats on being succesful. smile
