Naselle River coho catch limit increases beginning next month

Salmon anglers heading to the Naselle River will soon be able to keep some extra coho salmon for the BBQ grill or next holiday meal.

State Fish and Wildlife is boosting the daily limit to six fish and up to three adults may be retained of which only two may be wild coho with a minimum size limit of 12 inches from Dec. 1 through Jan. 31 from the Hwy. 101 Bridge to the Crown Mainline (Salme) Bridge. Anglers will need to release chum and wild chinook.

Fisheries managers say the coho return to the Naselle River and the Naselle Hatchery is good enough meet conservation goals and hatchery spawning requirements.

This is good news for those of us who fish the Naselle Rv. It's been a tough year so far. The low water early in the year did not allow the fish to come up the river, so they got hammered by the commercial guys in Willapa Bay. But once the rains started, it didn't stop. The fish blew through the lower river quickly in high water. No alot of success in those conditions. I'm hoping for a long coho season, but it will depend on water conditions......

I was there monday and wouldn't characterize the fishing as being really hot.

There were some guys at the hatchery conducting a clinic hooking a silver every 20 mins jigging something that looked like they raided out of their wives'/girlfriends' green dill dough collection....( :
