I'm headed to New Orleans in a week and a half and was wondering if anyone had any connections or valuable info regarding redfish on the fly. I would really love to get out on a boat but I can't exactly afford a guided trip.

Haven't done it myself, but it is on my bucketlist.
This should help get you stoked for your trip.

Quite a few guys on Dan Blanton's board have been fishing there recently.
You might want to post your question there as well. I'm sure you'll get some info.
You might be able to pull some helpful info out of these recent threads.

Hope this helps,

My only experience with them was on deep hardware or bait, but I caught a bunch when I lived in Florida.
But if you find them rolling up in the mangroves they will hit flies, I believe. I would definitely think about sink tips. I learned they roll high but hit low. That was years ago from hardware flinging heathens. Your mileage may vary.

Stonefish provided some good links.

Why don't you call a guide and see if he has a mercy trip, or needs to fill a boat or can help a jonesin' fisherman from Poundtown, wherever that is. State your case; the worst answer is "no."

I know you said you can't afford a guided trip but rest assured, the Mississippi Delta is world class for sea trout and redfish.

That looks cool! We're thinking of visiting New Orleans in the near future. This gets me to thinking about looking into nearby fishing options too.

I will be visiting South Carolina this coming June and was also looking into getting in on some redfish action. It seems like June is a good month for inshore fly fishing when they come into the shallows and will be found right up in the weeds often sitting in only a foot or two of water.Perfect for fly fishing.
