Heading over to Sequim this weekend. Have never done this - any suggestions? I'll be bank fishing and I'm not sure of line type for the surf.
Thanks in advance

P.F.: You won't find much of a "surf" here, and a regular 4-5 wt rig will do fine. The cutts will hit all kinds of patterns if they're within range, but baitfish imitations seem best. Fish shallow, around rocky bottoms, dry line. Best bet is probably to stop in at PTAngler fly shop in Pt. Townsend or Greywolf Angler in Gardiner for tips. If you prefer Sequim over Indian Island, try the beach at end of Port Williams Rd, north of John Wayne Marina.

Yep, Scaly said it. 4,5, or six weight rods are plenty, You might bring a mono core or sink tip line. Bait fish, crazy charlies, or oddly enough a very sparsly dressed Micky Finn are all good choises. Bring some pink, chartreuse, and all white patterns. Look for water from one to four feet deep with a moderate current. If you can't move any fish with a moderate retreive try crawlin it in the gravel, if that doesn't work try rippin it in the film. Retrieve speed can make all the difference. A fellow by the name of Lance Peterson is now guiding searuns in that neck of the woods, he takes alot of big trout (17-20)If you want to get in touch with him you can email me at ptangler@olypen.com ( He only guides sea runs in the salt-I don't think I am steppin on any toes here) GOOD LUCK!
