I would like some opinions on what the best jig hooks are, I make my own jigs. I have always used Gamakatsu hooks 4/0 beacause they are so sharp, but also have straighted them out. I think Brads Jigs use's Mustad 2X strong, just looking for any advice ,Thanks.

well as a user of Brad's jig........and friend and fishing partner....all starts with the hook.....Mustad and Owner, are the main hooks. Over the past 15+ years, Brad has tried other brands.....but success leads right back to Mustad and Owner.

The nice thing about the 32833BLN is they go all the way down to size 10. It is difficult to find small sizes in a 2X strong 90 degree jig hook.
Great hook for tying micro jigs.
I buy them in 50 packs from Barlow's Tackle.

I have always used mustad 2x as stated above but I recently poured up 1000 on matzuo 3x strong hooks. I am a fan of mustad but I must say that the matzuo are an awesome hook as well. Have caught many fish in then already and have absolutely no problems. They're tough. Sharp as chit too.

gamakatsu heavy wire 2xStrong in 2/0 is what I use mainly for 1/8 oz jigs. Never been straightened out on one. I did however make the mistake of one time buying heavy wire instead of the HW 2xStrong. I had two fish straighten me out on those last year.

I have never heard of matzuo 3x hooks and my understanding is that they quit making the 2x jig hook.
Where are you seeing 3x matzuo hooks???
As for the mustad 32833, that is what I use and they are awesome hooks that are not overpriced like the owners and gami's.

I am looking at 3/8oz type hooks with 4/0 or 5/0 hooks for Silver fishing. Sounds like the mustads are pretty good.
Now, does anyone know where one could get a few hundred 3/8oz jigs poured with the 2X Mustad type hooks? Just the un-painted poured jigs?

I ordered them over the phone from bobs sporting goods in Longview. They are indeed 3x, says so right on the package. Good hook but yes I think you ate right about them not being made anymore. Also, these are sickle jig hooks.

I have the mold for the 32833 hook and just looked it up and there is not a mold for 3/8 for that hook but the other molds can be modified. The mold I have is the larger size and it has 1/16 1/8 3/16 1/4 The other steelhead jig mold that has 3/8 calls for the eagle claw 630 hook and may require modification to accept the 32833.....you want the 32833 trust me. Jutst thought I would let you know. Here is a pic of some of the 100 1/8oz I just did.

Try jagged tooth tackle they had the best price I could find on the 32833 and they have the larger sizes. Shipping is free so keep that in mind when comparing prices. Once you add shipping everyone else I have found is more expensive and jagged shipped super fast!!!

Might check this place out for the larger sizes up to 6/0. Same hook, but it looks like they changed the model #

Great information, I would like to contract with someone to pour them for me as I just don't have the time these days with all the stuff going on at the lodge. I have a guy to paint and tie for the tackle store and buy quite a few from the jig guys on this board but it is hard to find the strong hooks on a 3/8oz jig with a 4/0 hook.

Depends on which lot of heat treat you get, rvrfshr had a batch of siwash that would break while closing the eye.

Not the guy I used...can't find info on him, but here are some.
*3/0 are as big as they go for in-stock... maybe send him a message and ask on availability of 4/0 - 6/0?

I have bought Gamakatsu 25 per pack 4/0 haeavy wire 90 degree with round bend at Whole Sale Sports in Lacey, but I have bent these hooks. Also I have found them at Wall Mart in 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz, looks like the same size wire.

Gami 2x strong. Nothing else is at the same level. Brad will pour them up but you have to buy them and send them to Brad's. The mustads are very similar with slightly lighter wire and not as sharp. I looked long and hard but they were just not as desirable (but still adequate). I think I remember mustads being a size smaller too (but not sure). If you like gami 2x strong's shape then you will be happy with the hook. You'll never bend one out on a fish and they are sharp! If you want a bigger gap or sickle shape then this isn't the answer.

But isn't the 1/0 gami 2x smaller than the 1/0 mustad? I think they run a size different. Also, have a tug-of-war with the hooks. I did. Mustad and owner lost. The Owners are actually quite weak in my make-shift tests and in the field. I have bent owners out a bunch of times on fish.

The heavy wire aren't really "heavy". They are just heavier than the light wire. The 2x strong are the same dimensions only lots stronger. You will have a hard time bending those out on a fish. I have tried, lots!
