Just a note... I took my boy out for his birthday to Ilwaco to go sturgeon fishing. we spent the whole day with out a bite. I know its called"fishing" but I found it interesting to listen to 7 charter boat skippers complain that they cant even find a sturgeon on the fish finder let alone catch a short. My skipper complained he hadnt had a bite in the last 4 trips and had caught no keepers. He said there was a net season targeting sturgeon on the lower columbia now!! anyone know about this?

Sturgeon migration starts with the following of another run. SHAD, smelt, salmon and ?. Maybe something that usually runs up, that the sturgeon feeds on, hasn't entered the river system yet. Otherwise I don't have any ideas. I have never heard of a net season for sturgeon, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I certainly don't claim to know much about sturgeon, but as a guide, I have to ask this question: did the skipper ever inform you of the (beyond) slow fishing before you embarked on your trip ... I would find it amazing that a concientious guide would run clients in such a situation!!!
