I'm up 10.355% for a moderate risk tolerance portfolio net of contributions. Better than the Dow, not quite as good as the S&P 500. Considering that I have a smattering of bond and other fixed income investments totaling about 15% of my primary portfolio. I'll take that return any year.

No Comment, because it is obvious to me by now that the only one here who is willing to openly discuss the market and the economy including the real drivers behind the whole scheme is Driftin'.

I'm on my usual roll of buying high and selling low. At this rate I should be able to retire in comfort by the time I'm 135 years old.

I can't match that because at my age I have a bigger share in income stocks, and bonds. But it was a fine year.

Ryley,

Since you have a unique understanding of the market, I assume you made a killling?

Dave, My understanding isn't unique nor is it used to invest, it's just not mainstream.

Well put FP, I'm impressed.

Back in the day when the market was connected to reality, I was a player of the game. These days, a significant portion of all volume consists of High Frequency trading mechanisms, because most of the smart money is out. The clowns destroyed the pricing mechanism via their put/flooring and disconnected the capital markets from reality. In consequence they turned the capital markets into Ponzi scheme. They trade this Ponzi between themselves always finding the greater fool until the music stops. This can go for very long time but something tells me in 2013 the music will stop. They'll stop the music when they've found the last greater fool and then continue to profit on the downside.

For those who see both sides of the trade, every direction is progress, I guess, but I opt not to participate in such a disgraceful sham on principle alone.

Yeah, the markets were up in 2012, Thank the Federal Reserve and Q-Infinity for that, not anything that is real.

Supercomputers running complicated algorithms can't figure out the market - and you can't either, Mr. Sauce, or you'd be counting your billions instead of posting on PP.

The dollars I made in the market last year are very real. I know because I handed some over to people, and they gave me goods and services for them. That's all I really need to know.

I collected my meager holdings into one pile in June or so and invested in Small Dogs and managed 13% in 6 months. If I can keep up that rate of return, I am never going back to work! (or reality wink )

As usual Dan hit the nail on the head.

I too bought a lot of real stuff with real profits.

I have been investing for more than 40 years.

The only thing for certain is that those who are certain
what the market will do next year are usuallu wrong.

While this is a fishing & hunting forum and not Bloomberg, most of us men of good character operate our entire lives under assumptions and presumptions that have very little to do with the larger picture of the concepts pertaining to "dollars," "money," "value" and similar words steeped in both history and law. Therein lies the paradox betwixt what we *believe* to be real and what *is* very real, and our blind acceptance of such, as Brother Dan stated above.

My affliction with the concept of *why* has pleasantly plagued me from my youth and has taken me to all kinds of venues, both foreign and domestic, experiencing the inherent paradoxes therein. Regrettably, I can't/won't post a detailed summary and photographs of my sojourns on this public forum. Perhaps such private conversations could occur while navigating a productive stream of thought in either my DB or yours.....

I wish peace and good fortune to all the investors in Wall Street reading this, and, for those so inclined, proffer Genesis 39 - 47 read with the context of the Federal Reserve as Pharaoh. There is nothing new under the sun....

I never said a word about rolling in profits, but if that helps you make your point, have at it. My wife works because she wants to - it has nothing to do with my decision-making. She works hard because she correctly believes that's how it should be.

"This guy" is a little gossip-girl. Tell him I said he doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground, and he should really shut his face hole until he knows WTF he's talking about. My wife can put him in touch with me if he wants to chat about his sandy vag.

I implore you all to read this article, which explains exactly why and how the market is doing so "well" . That's just a simple quote Dave, I'm not being sarcastic.

What a scam of epic proportions....

Here is an interesting article about the "Fed" and our money and what the banks are doing with it. This ties right into why there is so much money on deposit.
It's going to pizz you off!

Secrets and Lies of the Bailout
The federal rescue of Wall Street didn’t fix the economy – it created a permanent bailout state based on a Ponzi-like confidence scheme. And the worst may be yet to come

Lots of pretty pictures in this article which outlines Fed "intervention" to prop the market up that last 3-4 years:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-01-22...l-reserve-looks

It's undeniably in the numbers, and anyone who thinks the Fed isn't carrying the whole market with now endless QE is suffering from massive personal incredulity about how things actually work.
