Does any one know if the Pflueger Pakron # 3178 reel is a fly reel or not?
I was wondering if this reel was a fly or one of those knucle buster style,single action reel.

Hey divers, The only Pflueger's that I know of are fly reels but all are in the 1400 & 1500 # series. They also make an automatic reel but it's a model #1195. I could be wrong, but I don't think they make anything but fly reels. Hope this helps. Ric

I think the pakron is one of those knuckle buster type reels. The only fly reel that I know of is also a Plueger supreme but it's a fly reel. Good Luck.

Pakron is not a fly reel.. Pakron is the double handle reel also know as a knuckle buster. Plueger made many different reel lines (supremes, skilcast, pakron, knobby, summit, medalist, akron, trump and many more.) Pluegers line of fly reels are known under the name medalist.There are many different sizes of the medalist reels. Hard to beat a classic.......:-)

it is not a fly reel. but the price for the reel is now $80 (ebay) I have the high bid right now but I dont know for how long.

I have a pakron 3180 I would let you have for whatever you think is fair. I got it when my father-in-law died, it had been sitting for over 25 years and its just sitting here. I am in Tacoma Wa.

I have a few Pflueger Supremes and they are fun to fish with. They take a little to get use to but once you do you will like them. The Pfluegers were one of the first high quality fishing reels made. I was lucky to get mine from family.

Yes they are knuckle busters(direct drive) they are gray. Ambas. had the same, they are 4000D & 5000D. They are all hard to fine!!!!!!!! The 4000D is brown and the 5000D is green, The d stands for direct drive. If you fined any grab them if the price is right. I hope this helps you, good luck.

its a big knuckle buster, two handles. it has some pitting in the spool since steel line was left on it. it spins smooth but it has been around. another place to try is the antique angler in sumner wa. he rebuilds my reels before I head north to alaska each year. he had some knuckle busters and his prices seem fair. sorry I cant find the phone number

The supreme reel is a bait caster. The Pakron is a large reel used for trolling. It is quite popular with steel line trollers.

Ambassaduer also made 5500d that was direct drive, but is a baitcaster also. The supreme is the ultimate direct drive classic reel.
