If you build them, we'll drive around them because the tolls are too high. If the you lower the tolls, we'll pay, but they won't produce enough capital to pay for themselves.

What to do?

Answer? Toll everything, including side streets!

Problem solved.

Don't you love when a plan comes together?

I heard on the radio that the 520 tolls have produced a ton of money already for the future new bridge. The original 520 bridge had its toll removed something like 6 or 8 years earlier than estimated because the tolled traffic (@ $0.25) paid it off.

Same story with the Hood Canal Bridge, Sg. Toll finally removed long after the bridge was paid for.

This new scenario seems to be a different animal.....perhaps the increased cost of doing business? or a decrease in the willingness to pay? Don't know yet, but there's a lot of hoops to finally get these new things swinging positive.

Lets look back and think if we had renamed Seattle to be Sea-first City. Or Washington Mutual-ville. We could have called the mountain Rainier Bank Mountain. I- 5 could have been Pay-n-Pak Drive. Or Ernst stadium at UW. Let's let the history books recognize how we sold our souls for a buck. It would be fitting tribute to the era. The State song could be from a crappy TV show that nobody remembers, as they tried to do not that long ago.
