I'm going to Greenwater this weekend to stay at a friends cabin. The White River runs right by there and I was wondering if that river produces any steelhead or salmon. Any info would be nice along with maybe location on the river and what to use!

There is no Steelhead and Salmon fishing above the dam on the White River. The dam took care of that!!!!!! Oh, I forgot plus the diversion of water for Lake Tapps!!!!!!! The White was once a great Spring Salmon river. Another river lost to dams and diversions!!!!!!! The White was also diverted from the Green River, a little trivia. Sorry I could not help.

Thanks fishtale, do you have any suggestions on how to fish the river, what to use, and where to fish. Like I said I'm just staying up there for the weekend and would like to do some fishing! What should I fish for? Any help would be appreciated.

This thread brings up a question I have about springers on some rivers where you're not allowed to keep them right now. Could a guy get in trouble if he's out fishing for steelies or dollys and happens to catch and release a springer or two? I have no interest in poaching but can you also get in trouble for catch and release?

B.Gray, I think that as long as your not poaching the fish it is alright to catch and release the fish for the sport of it even if they are not in season yet! Don't take my word for it though.Brian

Brian I have fished just above mud mountain dam. I have tried to drift for them and also spinners. The water being so glacialy silted this time of year I have found that plunking big bait such as colored marshmallow on top of a whole nitecrawler then tip the hook with a few pautske eggs in the top of the riffles. most of the holes on this river are not to deep maybe 4'-0" or less. Hope this will help you out.

Brian you might want to look at some of the smaller creeks in the area the WHITE RIVER Is running high and colored there is not enough visability to fish you might try GREENWATER RIVER or twin creeks or the CLEARWATER RIVER it is trib of the white.I know because I drive over it twice a day.GOOD LUCK!!

Brian I have fished it just below the greenwater and just above the mud mountain dum. I prefer just above the pool that forms above the dam. It is a long hike down into there, But the dollies go up to 6,7 lbs.
I have mainly fished it in the summer months when the water wasn't so high. Read the reg's though I think it is catch and release for the dollies. And yes the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. Due to the dirty water.
