I want to use the Chronarch for steelhead with 10 lb. Maxima. Will the reel hold enough line. Should I go to the Curado (or the Calais, God forbid)? Thank you.

The Chronarch is a super reel and has the same line capacity as the other 2 you mentioned. It holds plenty of line for steelhead fishing.

My Chronarch is my favorite steelhead reel when teamed up with my 9ft Loomis 1084 and like fishawk says, it holds plenty of line for steelheading. I do carry another reel with heavier line to fish the "Natives" during the latter part of the season when it may be necessary.
Just remember..... to Catch and Release those Natives! I was going to go down to the Satsop today, but when I looked at the Graph, I had to say that was a no go, even though it is shining outside right now. I may have to go Chum bustin to satisfy my fish cravin.
See ya all later.

STEVE NG,

I was going to go to the Satsop today and saw the same thing you did. I went yesterday and banked it. I landed 1 chum just so I didn't get skunked. the rest of the time I tried for silvers. I fished at the "S" curves and up above then went down to Cook creek. the water below the middle fork was to muddy. I don't know if you realize it but the Grays Harbor Tributaries were closed for chums as of Sat. nobody knew that Sat. untill I passed the word around at the river. I was a little late a few guys allready had some chums punched and others kept them anyway. I don't think a chum is worth a fine but maybe some people just have more money than brains! I just wish I had the next few days to hit the Satsop but I gotta work.

Dcrzfitter, I don't keep chums either, but they are fun to catch and put up one heck of a fight as you know. I did end up taking my sled to Harstene Island and fished for some of those small net pen silvers....I just had to do some kind of fishing! I stopped at Allyn on the way back and there were lots of chums making vee's towards the creek in the saltchuck.
It sure is aggravating that when you have that many fish in front of you, you can't hook one. I even tried my fly pole, to no avail. Didn't even accidently foul hook one, but then I didn't have that spasm in my arm that many get that makes them jerk happy.
I too have to work, and I see that the Satsop is coming down now....I should have gone anyway, sometimes I hook alot of fish when I go up the east fork and fish the "seam that is created by the clear water meeting the mud and those fish are just under it. Like I said, I just like to hook fish....I don't eat too many, unless they are halibut.
Take it easy and maybe I'll see you on the river next week.

Steve Ng,

I am really regreting working now that the river is really droping like some one closed the valves off. You are right about fishing that seam. I talked to a boat that came down when I was at cook creek and they said they were really doing good at the mouth of the middle fork where the dirty water hits the clean E. fork. I really hope to get out this coming weekend to. I have a 17' Willie drift boat. no paint yet and I can be recanized from miles away when I have my big white cow boy hat on. I drive a white 95 GMC Z71 short box X- cab 4x4 with a Willie Boats sticker in the back window.

p.s. It can be very dificult to fish The mouth of the middle fork from a boat because there are normally allot of Bankers and unless you wanna anchor between them and the slot it's a park and walk back and join them spot. I allways like doing that and catching fish from under their nose then getting in my boat and going back down the river.

see ya around some day
