F1 of THIS year starts this weekend in Australia. We'll see who has their cars behaving like they should, and who needs to go back to the drawing board.

I sat in one of these cars at Pete Lovely's race shop. I went there to look at a 1959 Ferrari 250 Testarossa that they were rebuilding there, and wound up getting a chance to sit in the 67 Lotus F1 chassis. It's the one driven by Graham Hill in the 6th? slide.

Qualifying rained out after one of three sessions complete - Nico Rosberg on top of the time sheets in the Mercedes in a soaking wet Q1.
Q2 and Q3 to be held prior to the race today.

Rains in Oz are quite something to experience. Unless you're at the F1 qualifying sessions.  Lots of fond memories of the Land Down Under but they don't involve fast cars....

When I was out fishing the OP last weekend I was there with a couple from Perth who were in the PNW for the first time ever. They told me all about spiders, snakes, sharks, and crocodiles. It was enough to make me never want to visit. Meanwhile, they were rapidly falling in love with our area. They said you can't drive really fast because of the damn 'roos. It made me feel good to call this place and the USA my home.

Was in Perth for the '87 America's Cup race. Beautiful city and people. A local woman gave my bud & I VIP passes to the Royal Perth YC on the final race day. No screaming Cosworths but Kodachrome slides captured Dennis Conner getting bubbly dumped over his head after reclaiming the auld mug and entrance to the presentation ceremony covered by ESPN. Good times on both coasts.... Don't think you'll see any Roo Racks on the front of an F1....

I've gone to two races - Spa in Belgium, and the USGP in Austin, TX. Had a great time both times. It's not cheap, but you simply can't believe how these cars sound, and how fast they go, and it's hard to get a feel for it on TV.

Yeah - that was a good first race. 'The Iceman' still has it.
Looks like some teams need to figure out why their cars eat tires so fast.
