I thought it might be the 21 trillion Americans are hiding in offshore banks.

If your going to quote stats, try and get them right.

21 trillion is the complete worldwide number, not the US number. We've been through this before with this exact same quote.

So how much money are Americans hiding offshore?
And what effect does it have on our deficit?

My point was that BOTH parties support this wasteful spending.

If you just say it over and over.....sooner or later it will become true.

Must be someone that donated a lot of money to his rep that needs these tanks built. I would like to see this type of thing investigated and if misdeeds proven.......we should have the rep and the donor tar and feathered on the house steps.

Your either saying Americans are not hiding vast sums of money offshore to avoid paying taxes, or your agreeing with what I posted.
29 trillion was the number I found, and that looks like a world wide figure.
So does anyone know the US number?

Just but one example amongst many of taxpayer-funded corporate welfare from the US Federal Government.
Most of the Obama distributed stimulus stinks of the same smell.

I see an example from my office. A several hundred thousand dollar bridge over North Creek in bothell, just north of where 195th passes over the creek, for bicycles, and there is an totally adequate existing bridge not 15 feet downstream. 100% waste of taxpayer money, to line to pockets of donors of the DNC.

While both are objectionable - if true - I would much prefer building an unnecessary bridge with American workers than sending sacks of money to Karzi.

[Bleeeeep!] Hank, you could have just read my posts from 2003 when I was going off about our terrible idea and the even worse execution of it.

Back to Dave's point, this stuff is infuriating. "Everyone" wants to stop waste but only OTHER PEOPLE's waste. I'm also sick of things like allowing the sequester to pass and then undoing it in a piecemeal fashion to shut up the loudest whiners. The whole POINT of it is that everyone will have to deal with the reality of the situation and it is leveled across the board.

Except when it isn't.

Never happen Chuck. I think corruption and dishonesty is so rampant in our political system the only way to make any real change is a complete cleansing of both parties. Any honest freshman politicians will be indoctrinated to the status quo within their first week of taking office. Sad, but I fear our nation may never reach it's greatness again.

At least the tanks will be on hand to quell the uprising(s) of those who object.

cry Unless you can figure out a way to fix the offshore investments the tears are just noise. The process has been going on for decades and will continue to do so. When your government penalizes you for saving coin the alternative is keep your coin out of their hands.
Our DC ninnys have shown they can waste billions on Pork and Crackerbarrel politics. And when anyone tries to limit their act
they respond with the Sequestration BS and make it as painful as
possible to reap the political advantages.
How many billions have we given Karzai and he is not even a friend?

Here's another example of where our taxpayer money is going.

US paying Russia $70 million per seat to get to space station
