I like to use shrimp flavored Smelly Jelly. I definitely get more hookups using scents. I especially like the clear glow formula that adds a little extra visibility in low light and darker water.
Make sure to avoid getting much on the maribou tail though, it reduces the action.

Hey your on the right track! Somtime if you want a smaller profile bait take the sandshrimp and blend them in a coffee grinder or blender. This way you can make your own fresh scents...Also try varing ingredients as you never know what combos may entice better than others. Eggs work good also. Also somtimes if I need a really small not so boyant lure (for low clear)i'll cut off most of the foam and just leave a cone...if you cut it off center you can even achieve a small amount of eratic movement from it. Hope this helps. Hey I also see your from P.O. so am I, lived there all my life, we should hook up some evening and discuss this over a white russian or somthing!

ONE WORD OF ADVICE-
"To avoid getting the door, a $10 K-Mart blender will do the chore...."
Hehehe... If you take my hint...
Tom =)
