Was up there this summer and notice the launch under Stevens creek was closed. Is the next launch up the one off 101? If so I've never floated that stretch of river heard there is a divergence dam next to the hatchery? Any info about the drift would be appreciated. Thanx
Kevin

That damm is nothing at all, If its high enough you could probably walk the boat. there is a boat chute, just line it up and let er rip! you can even see the damm from the bridge I think, if you cant just walk approx 100 yards and youll see it. Its a small drop and not to difficult if you can keep a strait line All the fisherman stand just on the downstream side of it. You'll have to walk the boat around the back side of them probably anyway...The hole is small and you shouldent go over 600 fishermans whole there fishing.

Good luck and always smile at Battle fisherman!

What is the best range of floatable/fishable flows for the Hump? Are there any hazards other than the diversion dam to look out for?

The Hump is pretty much floatable most of the year. I rarely do drifts on it during the summer months, but quite a bit during the fall/winter months. The real problem with the Hump is navigating trees/stumps in the river. My Dad and I joke that Humptulips in Indian means (river with many trees in it) If you're good on the oars and keep your eyes moving ahead of you you should have no problems floating it. And to the original question, the shoot is a piece of cake. There are a few state launches and an unimproved one on the back road from the Hatchery to Copalis Crossing. Good luck.
