Providing a free lunch to kids who would otherwise go hungry is a noble thing for us/our government to do. And I gladly pay for that.

That said, I wish we could force any deadbeat parents to step up to their responsibilities. I don't gladly pay to help lazy deadbeat adults.

In this state, and most others, the mother is required to tell DSHS who the father is. If she refuses they deny welfare. They then pursue him relentlessly. They establish paternity if necessary. They establish a child support amount and they collect it. Any $$ collected go to the state to offset welfare payments. The only way he can escape paying is if he doesn't hold a steady job or moves often.

Last year the total for all states child support enforcement collections was roughly $24 Billion used to offset welfare payments.

I was wondering who it was that you were agreeing with, but when I read on the answer became apparent.

That must have been very sad and would break my heart to hear a kid say that to me, they would be invited to my house to eat.
