Have you guys ever tried squid? When the water is cold and clear, we have pretty good luck by tipping jigs with a few (2) tentacles from frozen squid. You trim the tentacles off at the base, and tip the very end of the hook with the squid. The tentacle weaves around off the end of the jig, and sometimes, it's the only game in town. It's a very subtle presentation, but can be dynamite on pressured fish. Jigs are fished under a float, about 6 inches to a foot off of the bottom. Another one that works real well in the winter is tipping jigs with waxworms, but I don't know if you can get them, or if your fish would stoop to such a small offering. I'm out.

Squid is some bomb stuff. Good late-winter bait for nates. Tentacles only please, with rag or rag/spin-n-glo combo. Good searching bait, stuff will not come off unless forcefully removed by metalhead mandible.

Also, tried it wrapped on kwickie for first time on namesake river this past August. Saved the day! Bottom of the ninth, Loomis with squid crumples while pulling away from slot just above takeout at shakemill. Pros, Jimmy, Jeff and Larry, had already gone though; so maybe a good change-up from sardines.

Peace out...
