with the Scotty clips, for braid pull backon or push forward (cant remeber) the small square ribbed joint. its that the back of the clip at where the two pieces join. It will click back (or forward). This is the tighter setting for braid. Not loops, toothpicks or tubing.

You pull the slider back to get a tighter grip. I did that it didn't help.(Well not much anyways)

After looking at the blacks release it looks like they were only good for the bottom of downrigger. I would like to get a release that you can set up stacker style.

I am going to try the toothpicks this weekend if that doesn't work then ill just go with about 50 ft of mono topshot.

If it wasn't for the fact I like to crank down my pole so its like a catapult ready to set the hook and fling the fish out in front of my boat I would be ok.

Try Chamberlain releases. Developed out here in the east. Very similar to a blacks but has an adjustment using magnets that allows dinky fish to trigger the release instead of dragging them around all day.
Pricey but way worth it.

Blacks makes a couple of styles and I think one for stacking. This link list a couple of different ones.
