What are your thoughts? I've been there & done that, it was fun. I've caught Summer Steel & Fall Kings/Coho on the Cowlitz in the past... don't know if I'd go back to fish all night long but figured a few of yah would have an opinion on whether this is a legit fishery or not so much... let's hear it!

Fun. Like bass fishing top water plugs in the dark.

perfectly legitimate as long as you're trying to get them to bite, just like any other time. that said, most of the guys that get frothing at the mouth about glow balling belong to the 10' leader and cannonball crowd.

i think fish often come in closer to the bank on the larger rivers at night, due to no sun hitting the water. i've had some really good nights fishing the cowlitz in years past. they seem to bite about the same in the dark.

really with there were a few more rivers open for salmon in the fall past dark. would be really nice for us working guys.

What Chum said. All of the places where I think it may be efficient involve the diehard covert snaggers. And drift fishing at night doesn't sound like much fun.

Post up at the mouth of the Cowlitz with some blinkies. Have some beers and catch fish. The crowds have been small lately.

even tho nowadays globalling may equate to a asnaggers ploy. globalling is a killer tactic. kings are suckers for a glowball. I know silvers slam those blue blowballs! they smack them g/bs hard!

I don't doubt it. When I was young I use to kill a lot of silvers casting plugs at nite on the Cowlitz. Get done with Beavis and Butthead and walk a block to the river. The area has changed a lot with all the fuking silt. You just can't trust a valcano(Army Corps). They're ruthless.

I guess the enjoyment really depends on the location. I was on a rock in a dike stuck between trees. Not the kind of fishing that's much fun at night if you're not catching. No bonfires and beers there. I nice gravel bar would be different I suppose.

Speaking of glow balls. I had a physical yesterday. Just as fun as I had recalled.

Can you even glo-ball for salmon???? I think its steelhead only. It was back in the late 80's early 90's.I wouldn't even think of trying it these days as it was a flossery. Good luck,

I did this a couple of times back 10 years ago for silvers at barrier dam. We went the night it opened for night fishing and had a really good time. I was using just a regular leader and a glo ball cast about 10 feet from my toes. No idea if I was flossing or not, but we got some good fish, and I don't remember foul hooking anything. It lasted for like a week, and then it got crowded with the flosser crowd. That was probably the last time I have ever been to Barrier Dam.

One night we drove off with my buddies custom 1082 GLX on the hood of the car. One thing I know about glo balling is it is fricken freezing. We usually made it to the bar an hour before last call.

most flossers I know use black corkies or yarn so the fish don't see it coming. if the ball is glowing then I don't think it would be as effective. that said I only did one trip to blue creek at night.

I used to love bobbers and eggs for coho at barrier, had a hard time finding a place where that was tolerated last few times I went. so I haven't been back in a few years.

Wow, people still glow ball? Used to glow ball a lot at Flaming Geyser in the late 70's. Of course that river had a lot of fish and that drift was dynamite back in the day!

If you're using a long leader, it doesn't matter what color corky you use.

You can buy floats that are lighted, no depth perception on what your float is doing.
