Any one ever try putting cured eggs one of these baits. I was thinking about this because sometimes I dont have herring. Would cured eggs give off enough scent or are they a sight type of bait? thanks JP

Not sure what sort of cutplug spinner bait you're talking about (Brad's?) but the use of a toothpick-pegged spin-n-glo to spin a glob of eggs behind them has been around for a long time I think.

I believe he's refering to the Brads. I have heard of upriver guys doing it with loose skein eggs. Oil packed Tuna was far more popular and successful. If I had eggs and were fishing up there I would run them behind and sng etc. And use another bait like Tuna fot the Brads. You can put any scent producing agent you want in those things. I just can't forego the presentation of eggs by stuffing them into a plastic bait fish.

the Les Davis cut plug? or there is a version that's soft? you talking about those?

smelly jelly works for scent on them... I'd still rather brine up some frozen. but in a pinch. they work.

I sometimes will put a nylon or cheese cloth bag full of old eggs on top of the downrigger ball. It can help, kokanee like it. and blackmouth seem to like Powerbait sometimes. but you put out too much scent in some areas and the dogfish will blanket the area. killing the salmon fishing.

I like the Idea of sent on the ball. I can't think of a cut plug spinner bait that would function well with a glob of eggs on it.

Not enough info, dewd. Product ?
Any plug-cut has to be streamlined (hydrodynamic).
Hanging eggs off of one would not be a good plan.
For example, just hook placement on a conventional plug-cut is critical.

He is refering to one of these. They are hard plastic and made by Brads. Again. Open, fill and snap shut with your choice of stinky chit. They are meant to mimic a cut plug herring.

I think the confusion was the words spinner bait when the product is in fact a super bait.

P.S There is a dewd who has had great success (I've heard) plunking these for Springers on the Cowlitz. He filled the cavity with Oil canned tuna.

I was referring to the brads, Sorry for the confusion. As they are not a sponsor I was trying to be discrete . I like the tuna idea, cheaper than some of the other options. I'm all about cheap these days due to my forced retirement. hope to go out in the Am if all go's well I'll let you know what happens. Thanks JP

Add rock salt to the tuna, from there you can add scent if you choose. Bloody tuna, Kenai cocktail, etc. Put the little sponge that comes with them in the garbage. Make sure to pack the tuna down good or your bait will blow out fast. If you are plunking put a cork bobber half way down your leader. If your from a boat, you can troll them faster then you think. Good luck.

What Yak said. Don't most of you guys re-rig hooks etc? I have family up and over there that love them. They said the secret to good action was with hook changes. Which makes sense with a big ugly treble running tail back.

If you take anything from this, remember tuna IN OIL!! Not as common as canned water in tuna and would make some nasty casserole and sammiches. And use those eggs behind a spin n glo or corky and plunk/troll the same way you. Would your super baits.

We are not discrete here so no worries. You'll never win anyways smile

Rig them with a long bead chain and siwash. Leave enough of the chain hanging out the bottom band so the hook can also swivel.
