Has anybody here ever used a spinnerbait for salmon or steelhead? It seems like they should work in the salt. |

What is a spinnerbait? I know spinners and spinner cut herring, but I don't know what you mean by spinnerbait. |

A fishing friend said he caught summer-runs using a black super roostertail. This is a roostertail with a spinner offset like a spinnerbait. |

We fish a Spinnerbait for our Springers on the Rouge as well as in the fall.... An anchovie with a spinner blade on the front... works great for springers in faster water........ TH I also use them on the lake for Bass... opps, sorry, I used the B word. (But they are great inthe summer. I heard a great quote by LBJ I believe??, he said, "I would rather catch the poorest steelhead, than the grandest bass." |

Good "change-up" bait for silvers in lower river. Pinks and purples. Buy "short arm" versions, or modify. Nuff said. |

Hey Steelheader Boy,Guess you'll be giving up the rubber worms since they were originally Bass baits.

You guys are absolutely right! I am a member of B.A.S.S. and love to fish for Bass in the "off season". I think you may have misunderstood me though. I was just needling Steelheader Boy for saying to,"leave the spinnerbaits for the lakes."I actually think that some Bass crankbaits would be good for the rivers. I'm even thinking of trying a Beetle Spin with a pink worm. I think that there are still alot of untapped lures that could be introduced into the rivers from the Bass world. Like the Bowhawgfroglizzard.....just kidding.

I agree with you jack on this too ,I guess a small spinner bait is just a jig with a lot of action , so why not a small pink grub on a beetle spin sounds ,like a good low water tactic, heck if it catches fish any water.A bass is a much more agressive fish so attacks because he thinks he can eat anything swimming in his lake ,a steelie attacks more out of instinct in this case ,good idea now where did I put my lake tackle box.....

Before there was Powerbait we all used to float a worm off of the bottom of a lake with minature white marshmallows for trout. A few times the trout would even hit a plain minature marshmallow. Soooo, as crazy as it sounds I wonder if the sugars in the marshmallows, Skittles, Gummy Worms, etc. would attract the fish or if it is good old fashioned dumb luck?Jack

Three years ago on the green river at palmer i saw a kid about 12 years old, hook a summer steelhead about six pounds on a chunk of strawberry nutrigrain bar rolled into a ball so maybe it has something to do with the sugar? FISH ON!!! |

Don't knock the gummie worms.. when I was a kid fishing for 'blueback' on the Willapa we nailed the fish on em. Also caught alot on cheese..
I use to fish a St Helens trib alot, and black bang tails were deadly on the summer runs there.
