I'm trying to get some suggestions on floating the mid section of the Sol Duc.
Any nasty water? I'm an intermediate oarsman and have done the upper Sauk before. I am new to floating the Penninsula rivers. Could anyone suggest launch and takeout points?
Also looking to float the Hoh. This time of year with the lower water would the upper or lower river possibly be more productive? We will be flyfishing and drifting the pockets mostly, maybe a little plug pulling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. C&R is the only way!

You can launch at the Hatchery and take out at Salmon Drive, or put in at Salmon Drive and take out at Whitcomb-Dimmel, or put in at WD and take at at the Sorting Yard.

Nothing terribly bad in any of these ... but you'd better know which way to go around the splits in the hatchery run and be set up right in the others. If you guess wrong, you could be in big trouble, although technically, these floats have some of the river's easiest rapids.

Hoh will all depend upon water color and traffic ... both sections have been on-and-ff over the last month. Personally, this is the weakest return I've seen in my years out here ... considerably more so than even the recent closure years ... what gives there?

I agree a year that could use a closure and they sit on there pens. Fish returns in future years from this year are going to be bad. Hasn't stopped the nets either.

The low water can make for some tricky spots if you go blind.

Thanks very much for the info. I Think we'll be mostly travelling by boat, and stopping to get out and fish. On the Duc I think we'll
definitely watch the other boats, and if a blind spot approaches we'll get out and scout the best way down. Bob, this BB is an invaluable source of knowledge and opinions.
Thanks again, and keep up the good work!

Mark
