I have a relatively new Daiwa Lexa 300 that does not seem to free spool when the casting bar is pressed. Who are people using for reel repair these days? Thanks in advance!

Do a Bing search for Alan Tani who has a great reel repair forum and post a question. If it is a newer reel it probably is just something easy like line binding in the spool. Unlikely bad bearings or gears. The reel probably has a 1 year warranty. You could call Diawa. Good luck.

I send my Daiwa Luna 300 back to Daiwa. They are prompt and reasonable.

I sent a LH retrieve Viento back to Diawa for repair and got a RH one back.

It was a strange experience as they refused to believe that they could have made a mistake and insisted that I sent them a RH reel in the first place.

They eventually agreed to send me a refurbished LH Viento but still openly admitted they didn't believe my claims to have sent them a LH version. Sending them a photo of my dozen plus LH reels, a few of which are Viento's, and offering the fact that I have never owned or purchased a RH reel didn't help my cause.

I'd suggest taking a photo of whatever you send back to them if going that route, just in case.

without opening the reel, here's my guess...this sorta problem lies with one part. the clutch pawl. it is the Achilles heel of all lowpro reels. it's job is to put the spool into casting mode. it's a high wear contact part. it's also the most tricky part to replace on a lowpro reel.

i had the clutch pawl go out on my old diawa procaster with the flipping switch thing. the flipper is a great way to feed line for float fishing, but don't forget to turn it off when casting as the bar doesn't stay depressed, and will bring a rather abrupt end to your cast, trashing the pawl. I called diawa and they sent me the part, free and shipped.

Assuming you didn't take the reel apart and put it back together, I agree with Brewer. If this started after you took it apart and put it back together, the bar/button may have simply been left in the "down" position before the reel was sandwiched back together.

The only thing worse than not freespooling is not coming OUT of freespool when you are in the salt and your jig just hit the bottom. Even some high end reels succumb to this problem rather quickly.

Coley is just an ambidextrous scam artist. At least they sent you a casting reel back. Quit yer whinin'! rofl

Freespool clutch went out on my REVO Toro.

Mfr defect on a high-wear part.

Board member Chad Lukehart fixed it for me (still owe ya bud!)

But alas... I'm back in freespool purgatory, unable to reliably take the spool in and out of gear.

Or maybe I'm just a magnet for POS reels.

I have repaired just about all the lowpro reel styles out there with this issue. my belief is that the clutch pawl is made of a metal that is just to soft. one pawl I replaced actually had the small hole that it's spring that went into, had bored a larger hole from wear that was so large the spring would no longer work correctly. I have a curado 301 dsv that I received recently that I have to fix this exact same issue. I may still have those old pawls somewhere. if I do i'll post some pics to give examples.

these issues are like brake pads on your vehicles, you will have to replace the worn down parts eventually.

Doc

Sold my Revo Toro, well they fixed the first one under warranty a couple of times and then just sent me a new reel, put the new one on eBay and bought a Lexa today. Hoping for better luck with this reel.

Several of my friends had exactly the same problems with their Revo’s and sold them after having them fixed numerous times. I still have spare Revo parts.

rofl Customer service any more can be reworded to "Customer Servicing". I've had similar experiences that seem to have suddenly gotten much more frequent.

I have a Diawa 103 HSDL. It has the free spool release button on the left side of the reel so the spool is completely open. It has been a good real, problem is the button no longer presses down, feels like it is binding, to release the spool. Took it apart and don't see anything out of place, of course I don't know what I am looking at. And I can't find any resources online about this reel. Must of made it one year and discontinued it. Anyone know where I can get it fixed?
