my husband boat fishes for salmon and was talking about needing these things that drag behind the boat to keep it balanced, stabalized and possibly to slow it down, I really don't know, but would like to surprise him with these for his birthday. Any ideas on what these are and where I would find them. What magazine or web site to shop from? Thanks for any help. Confused but loving wife.

I think what your husband is talking about is trim tabs. They mount towards the back of the boat and are used to stabilize and balance the boat for a smoother ride. This information I'm not totally sure of but I think I'm on the right track. Hope this helps!

I assume your husband trolls for salmon, and he is looking for a way to slow his boat down. A lot of people drag a 5 gallon bucket behind the boat to slow them down. There are things made for slowing down the boat, they are made of canvas and they fold for storage.

orsturgeon, I think one would be enough. Two may be useful in unusual situations but I dont think it's worth buying two. You probably noticed the size chart, if his boat is boarderline on size I would opt for the larger size. Fish On!

Am I missing something here? Maybe this is something new, but in all my years of salmon fishing I haven't seen a sea anchor used in conjunction with any type of fishing. Please enlighten me.

Dan M, there are several uses. It can be dragged behind if you dont have a kicker,(you can make it smaller). Or my favorite is jigging when the wind and tide are running in opposite directions

Now that you mention it, I have seen boats dragging around buckets to slow them down. Yes,I can see how the sea anchor would help control your drift while jigging in those conditions too,thanks for the reply.

There is a plate that connects to the cavitation plate on the motor. You lift or lower the unit slow or speed up. I haven't seen them here in Canada but the boats that I have seen them on were all from the states.
P.S. If that doesn't work if he tunes his bait less (less curve) he should still be able to catch fish. I troll up to 3 knots and catch large chinooks they can swim very fast if they want to.
