Had a good time today meeting new people and clipping those coho! Thanks to Canyonman and Parker for picking me up! Also thanks to the Humptulips store for the grub!

Goodwife and I are driving down tomorrow a.m. from Seattle.
We have an extra seat if needed. Just PM. Leaving dodge 8 am.

Anybody have some sharp scissors we can use?

Rick

We still need volunteers for all of next week!

Many many thanks to those that have volunteered (and will continue to) volunteer your time at the hatchery, but we need to keep it going!

Please, please, please come out and clip some fish this week! Even if it's for a few hours.

You do not need to be on any list! Just come on out. There will be plenty of fish for you to clip!

Turnout of about 18 folks today... clipping over 50k coho.

Done early because we emptied both adjacent raceways of available parr.

Moving the clipping trailer closer to the next set of raceways now so the entire operation will be ready for the next round of volunteers in the morning. Will post some pics later tonight.

Good progress today, clipping the remaining 54,000 coho in the near raceways. As Doc mentioned, hatchery staff are moving the marking trailer over close to the raceways with the remaining fish. Too bad we had to quit at 2:30 or we could have raised the bar somewhat beyond the 60,000 marked in a day.

A shout out to Dave of the Humptulips Grocery for the wonderful BBQ lunch. Never been fed like that before at a fish marking trailer. It really topped off the great community atmosphere, and Mrs. Salmo and I met some new PPers today.

I had my questions about whether or not we license buyers should be asked to shoulder this burden, but after putting in a few hours today, I left feeling a real sense of community and a sense of genuine satisfaction. It was pretty neat handling all those little coho and thinking about how we were all chipping in to ensure the fall 2014 fishery would be as good as possible. I don't think I was alone in actually feeling a bit disappointed when we ran out of fish to clip.

Thanks to all who have participated. I don't fish the Hump often, but I recognize the importance of that fishery to the local economy, and I'm glad so many others do as well. I especially appreciate the folks who came out from the Puget Sound area to help. Humptulips is a long drive from anywhere, and especially from Seattle and points north. Just know that your sacrifice is appreciated.

When you've got 50k-plus of these little buggers to perform a bit of minor surgery (officially an adiposectomy)

You'll need some serious WMD's to get the job done.

Of course you need some eager volunteers to supply the labor... certainly no shortage today.

The work was tedious and seemingly unending as more and more of the wiggly little buggers were served up for the task

Just let 'em swim in an anaesthetic bath and they calm right down

Then comes the dirty deed...

Repeat 50,000 times and you rack up a pretty good pile of these...

Time for a break....

Lunch provided by Dave of the Humptulips Store. Burgers, hot dogs, chili, chips, soda and all the fixin's. MMM MMM, Good! And an unexpected warm sunbreak under which to enjoy it!

Then it's back to work....

Job well done, folks!

And a small reward for interested bobber/bait anglers....

Thanks to board members On the Swing, Salmo G, Mrs Salmo G, RodHog, fish4brains, FleaFlkr02, Doctor Rick, Mrs. Doctor Rick...

And Dave, Lance, Mary, Ron, Arlis and Co, and at least 4 others whose names I have absent-mindedly omitted.

Looks like I missed a good time but I'll be back after them Monday and probably the rest of the week.

Pictures look good doc, and great to see some new faces at the party.

Hoping for some volunteers this coming week as we surely need them.

Sorry you couldn't top our 60,000 total but maybe next time.

I see ElGotoGrande came back for more and brought the family. Very cool. Nice to have the girls along as they sure can clip more than us boys can!!!!!

Not sure who the others are but a big thanks from fp for sure. I hope somebody made a list of the clippers this weekend so I can enter them into the free guided fishing trip with Superfly. I am hoping to be one of the winners as I have never had the chance to fish with the Fly.

See ya's Monday?????

Thanks a bunch for getting, and KEEPING the ball rolling on this one! it certainly was a good week to get the project started, complete with beautiful weather once the work was done..thanks to all that showed up this week, it was nice to meet and put some faces to names...here are some of my better shots this week, I will have a video on the shenanigans at some point in time..

keep the word up Fp, I may be able to come back out next week for a bit.. BTW Have we gotten any more info on the discovery pass yet? Think my 5 days there this week should be good for it, and of course not having to ask the King if I can/ or can't float a section of the river.. stir

Good pictures On The Swing, Sure glad you showed up every day as
the slackers are still at home watching the grass grow.

A very dismal showing of clippers today. 4 of us showed and got 12,000 clipped.

Today Dave, from the Humptulips store, again provided a great lunch today with
some homemade Taco's and a bunch of goodies to munch on. Of course, the no shows missed it.

Tomorrow he will prepare some hotdogs and hamburgers to the people who show.
But I guess if nobody wants any clipped Silvers in the Humptulips you'll miss the free meal again.

Hungry? I'm not.

COME ON PEOPLE. WE NEED HELP as only Mikey, fp, and Ron E clipped all day and Ron's wife Jen-nei,
Rick and Dave pitched in for a while and it really helped.

Here ya go. Our crew for today.

Happy? I'm not!

Saturday a lot of people showed and they clipped 50,000.

Sunday was less people and less fish clipped, 30,000.

Today, Monday, only 12,000. We need help. Pictures later, betcha this excites you?

If we get almost ZERO help like today we will probably be into the weekend.
Mikey and I are not
starting until 9:30 tomorrow as a dentist will get into the way.

Don't think we have too many to go but with
just 12,000 a day it will go slow. I forgot to get
the totals from the hatchery guy. I'll try to
remember to ask tomorrow.

Thanks for yer help already. We just need more
people to step up and get it done.

Was glad to make it down Sunday with a couple of friends. Had to do my part. Special thanks to Dave for the lunch. He couldn't have had better timing with burgers & razor clam chowder. Sorry I won't be able to make any more but the 350 mile rd trip is prohibitive. Hope others that use this great fishery will step up to keep it going.

fp, Do you think the clipping will extend into next weekend? If so, Goodwife and I can probably make it Sunday.
Rick

For anyone sitting on the fence, it it a lot of fun, good company, and very rewarding. It is not as often as we like that we can do something hands on that makes a difference in our fisheries.

Doctor Rick,

If nobody shows it will probably be into the weekend. I'll try to find out how the numbers are doing tomorrow and post that night.

So far tomorrow it is only Mikey and I. So, we can only do so much, as it is power in numbers. Maybe some people will show up, I just don't know.

Thank you for your help this last weekend and wish we were there too but we will get this project done soon. I am going on a guided fishing trip Friday and can't cancel it, so it might come to a standstill that day.

Update as usual tomorrow night,

fp

Thanks for the show up sleddddder, sorry I missed you and your friends. Yes, 350 is a long ways to go.

Again thanks,
