Sounds like you know him well. If you don't have a problem with doing so, I would appreciate a pm email so I could share more details of my dilemma. Right now he has one of my rods I bought from him. Thanks much.

I don't think he borrowed the money from the Banditos, but they ended up buying the loan from who he did borrow from, and then went to collect.

I suspect the original loan holder was not Bank of America. wink

Oh....I know the real deal and have been out of $1,100.00 bucks since early last may. I'm sick of the hot air and BS like plenty others around here. I thought he was a friend and have even been to a funeral and plenty of tuna and salmon trips out of Westport with the guy. The final straw was when he Fuked over my good Buddy and tuna / ocean captain. Warning........ I repeat.....warning.....Do Not Give Jim Mercier of XRODZ a dime of your money right now until he can get square with Lotsa of others out there. I've received plenty of PM's this weekend from others on this site and the stories are all the same. I've contacted my legal team to go over my options....Good luck,

Out $600.00 same stories and excuses. Funny thing is if he had come to me and said he was going through some hard times and needed some cash I probably would have helped out Jim. Been 4 months and counting. As Strike zone said, Warning ! Warning! warning!

Hi guys, I don't post much but have really enjoyed this site and have learned a lot from you guys over the years. Thanks! I do have an interest on this post. I am a proud owner of a few of Jim's rods. I say "proud" because of the performance, quality workmanship and care he puts in his rods. I will continue to fish them with pride, the way he built them. Sometimes things don't work out the way we hope for all kinds of reasons. I don't know about you guys, but for me people aren't disposable. It seems to me if we can help with a positive attitude and a little support instead of a bunch of ragging on stuff we really don't know the whole story on, that might be a good thing. Screwing up is easy. Picking up the pieces and moving on sometimes is not. When I think of Jim, it brings fond memories of a good guy who has a lot to offer to our sport and interests. I would love to see him back and successful.

Heck. I think everyone has been easy on him. I have a bunch of fetha styx, and he did me good on them. Id bet he has some stuff laying around, and can make some of this right. Maybe. Id just hate to see it get any worse. The net can be a super good tool....or a super bad one.

Good Luck to all that have money out!

You keep mentioning Frog Quest. Just a heads up, they are sponsored by Fetha Styx, owned by Bill Boyce.
This discussion is about XRodz, owned by Jim Mercier.

He moved his shop from Redmond to Monroe. Don't know where it is located. As far as bashing, for the people who are out money I have not seen any bashing going on just a warning to others now might not be the best time to give your hard earned cash. I think all of us who have bought rods from Jim are Sad in the fact that we cannot buy super quality rods from a guy we thought of as a friend and genuinely good guy.

It just sucks for all of us.

I guess I was really lucky. Last year I found two used Xrodz on craigslist that I got for a steal. I brought them into Jim for some background and info. He repaired the guides on one of them and was a pleasure to talk to. I bought two live bait tuna rods and I had them within two weeks. He offered to get me Avet reels at a good price as well.

Pure dumb luck on my part, the rods are really nice.

Some of you are spreading a serious buyer-beware... which is always appreciated... unless you have some personal experience with the guy, or his company... adding any hater posts to a thread such as this one (pigpile?) might make some viewers think you have douchewaffle-like personality traits... which I am sure isn't the case... you're a genuinely good guy and are just misunderstood smile

Jim has built me some top rods but my fifth one I've been waiting for over a year, just a simple trout rod. I'm out $300. I communicate with him but be gives me stories of being sick which could be true. I'm gutted coz I really liked the guy, loved buying rods of him. If he can pull through on this I'd still buy another I mean his rods are simply that good IMO.
I've probably left it to long to call up bank on this I did use my CC.

I too have an unfulfilled order from Jim dating back over a year. I have 6 of his rods and I, like many others, considered the dude a friend and straight shooter. He's proven that faith to be unfounded.
I left my rod for repair at the office next door to his vacated Redmond office. I also paid him for an additional rod which over the course of a year, all together has amounted to forty (40) text messages. Every excuse that is out there has been included in those messages.
Wasn't raised that way!!! WTF over.

I have logged well over 300 text in the past year trying to get my XRODZ & reelz or just my $800.00 back. Same song & dance. I have two tips that need replacing and he's willing to meet me for hand off to get fixed. I just haven't had the time lately.Hopefully he pulls out of this situation real soon......it's gotten old. Add me to the list for $800.00. When I did get ahold of him last year got the same song and dance: sick, death In family and so on, it is just sad that he can not be honest and tell the truth about situation.

Jim Mercier seemed like a nice, but probably an over-optimistic, guy when he made a rod for me about 8 years ago. I was always skeptical that a small operation could really compete with the large manufacturers, especially here in the PNW, but I never expected it to come to this. Sorry about the guys getting screwed by him. Good luck. BYW, I peeled the XRodz decal off my boat last month and will never again recommend them.

Hello to EVERYONE on the Jim Mercier thread.

I recently stumbled upon this thread and couldn't believe how many guys have been affected by Jim/Xrodz. I thought I was the only one.

Long story short, Jim has taken me and my company (guiding service) to the tune of approx. $7500. Just like everyone else here, I heard every possible excuse in his book this past year.

I am taking this matter seriously and have already been in touch with the cops on several occasions. I now have a case file opened against Jim and am taking the initiative to take this to the next level….legal action.

If anyone is interested in jumping on board in hopes of getting their money & equipment back, please send me a PM with your phone number or email, and I will contact you directly to discuss this in further detail.

I am in the process (just started) of compiling a list of people that have had money taken from them by Jim….there are 4 of us so far, and already totalling over $14,000 in stolen money and property. And based on this thread alone, I know there are a lot more out there.

Guys, this is A LOT BIGGER THAN YOU THINK IT IS.

I am willing to do the grunt work for everyone, but will need your help if you want to get your stuff back. The bigger list I can compile, the more and better chance we will have with the cops and lawyers.
I respect everyone's privacy, so any information you submit to me, will be kept confidential and I will not be releasing any names or details to anyone, as this will most likely go to court.

Guys, we can't let Jim get away with this….let's get our stuff back!
Many thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to hearing back from as many people as possible.

I jumped on board with Chris about a month ago on this issue. The more people that come out of the closet on this the better off we may all be in the end.Good luck,

Better get on it before he bankrupts. Hope it works out for those who are out money. I usually hate threads were people and their businesses get trash talked, but this one is different. Even some that are getting ripped off almost defend jim. He is a likable guy, but he has operated likea crook . Even the guy that tried to strongarm jim was getting ripped off. Jim was suppose to pay him a large some, and got out of that using the law. There is a lot of that story many dont know. Ya the guy played tough guy, but had tried for a long time to get jim to pay him. Now he is will neverget his money. Kinda looks like I am defending him, but im not. The whole thing sucks, and I'm lucky he is not into me for some money, or rods cause I have done a lot of business with him. good luck everyone!

It's all a principle thing @ this point. Time for him to sell the short bus and pay some debt off. Good luck,

Sounds like he should be the recipiant of a good old blanket party! Usually that's all it takes for behavior modification. Of course all that will be gained is a degree of satisfaction but I'm sure you all would just like your money or equipment back, but unfortunatly highly unlikely. bob r

Thanks Sickbayer….I replied to your PM message with some information.

Guys, I've only had a few people come foreword so far…..I know there are a lot more out there. Hopefully more will come forward soon.

If Jim has taken any of your money or equipment, please send me a PM with those details, so that I can add it to the list.

We have 6 people so far, but the $$$ figure is quite large.

Collectively, we stand a better chance…the more the better.

Looking forward to hearing back from a few more of people.

Thanks everyone.

Chris,

If anyone is interested I have the recipe for the XROD 10'6" DR 1064. I am going to attempt to build me a couple of them. Total cost for bits and pieces is $235.00.

I unfortunately lent money to Jim and never got it back. I do have a prommisory note, signed by Jim, which promises the right to inventory in the event of non payment. That was almost three years ago. Would like to join in action to collect money back.
