Wet, cold, & rainy days are not always a such bad thing when you have a machine shop. Winter projects can be so much fun.

Allah be praised, this year I was able to save enough money thanks to the un-affordable health care act to finally buy a cheap 4x power scope and a second AR-15 lower receiver for the other 6.8 mm upper receiver I had laying around.

This year, the AR-15 rifle was the primary focus. A bunch of pre production produceability studies, mostly R&D stuff for future sound suppression endeavors and then of course some personal rifle work. That's the fun part. The stuff I make for me.

So, Sey Hallo to my lil" frenz.

For the ascot sportin' Tri-County liberals this project needed some other parts to complete the second rifle. A new lower receiver, lower parts kit, low mass hammer & trigger assy., and bolt carrier from JP Rifles, a new 6.8 enhanced bolt assy. from Lewis Machine & Tool and a few extras from MagPul is all that was needed.

Here is the shot of the new 4x scope mounted on the 22” upper receiver.

Some close ups of the 4x Trijicon ACOG Scope. It has an illuminated crosshair so in low light conditions, you look through it and you see the mil–dots and the cross hairs illuminated in red. It’s pretty freakin’ cool. The $75.00 Trijicon mount that I bought to fit the new 4x scope to the flat top receiver was a real POS so I ended up making my own.

Here is a comparison of the 22” rifle version with 4x Trijicon ACOG and the 16” carbine version with the EOTech holographic heads up sight.

I only have one thing to say ... Parker ... Stay the fukk off my lawn !

Very nice !

Judging from the images that have come back from the Stan and Iraq the ACOG is a favorite.

I have an Aimpoint that I need to try out soon.

Edit:
I'd make Paker do the "Hollywood Bullet Dance" if I caught him on my front yard.

Really? Do you think that there are any other Elmer Fudd's up in here besides us two old shooters that have ever been to a sanctioned shooting match?

Nice work!

I had a muzzle break on my 6.8, but I took it off after standing next to my son's shooting one day. To the guys standing next to me in the last carbine class I took, sorry.

You have the right mags. Smoothest made for the 6.8, and those forends look very familiar.

Very solid BB and nice custom mount work. I'm really, really jealous that you have your own machine shop to tinker in...

I remember that day Todd. I was so nervous about our meeting that I was sweating like a whore in church. A very fat whore.

I was hoping you enjoyed some the canned produce I sent home with you but alas since the mason jars never got returned, well, I guess it is what it is. To bad. Lots of new canning & processing techniques going on here these daze.

My winter projects.

HRA in unissued condition, 12/54. If it weren't for the stock it would qualify as a correct grade.

Wow... I never could get the wood finishing right. Direct D is right, nice looking M1.

Andy, thanx for all that you do for the firearms enthusiasts of this state.

Please show us more on the .30 cal slow speed rounds you have been working with. .223 case head ?

I'll swing by your shop for an in person inspection of the M1. You will love it. Other than a few handling marks on the op rod charging handle, it is pristine.

It is easy to overthink wood finishing. Sanding a little is better than sanding a lot. Sanding by hand is better than using a power sander, especially on a rifle stock. Always sand with the grain, and when in doubt, use a finer grit paper.

The oil treatment is easy enough that I can figure it out, so I'm sure you would have no issue with it. Oil with boiled linseed oil until wet, let dry, oil again, and again, and again, and again. Finish the last two coats with tung oil, and go shooting.

8.0" .300 blackout barrel is on order, along with a few other parts so I can assemble my new SBR upper after my next stamp is approved.

Crappy picture, but from left to right are .223/5.56, 6.8 SPC, 7.62x39, and .300 Blackout.

The last cartridge is formed from a cut down .223 case. We made 1,000 for our initial set of brass. Here is what it sounds like, suppressed, using a friend's slide fire stock.

They were supersonic rounds. Subs would have been much quieter.
