Anyone have any pros&cons on the difference between Chameleon & Ultragreen. Also I was wondering which would be more visable in water.Thanks in advance

HI, IVE BEEN FISHING THE MAXIMA LINE FOR YEARS AND I THINK THE ULTRA GREEN IS MORE VISABLE THAN THAT CHAMEALON S#@&.

Chameleon is a stiff line with little stretch, as mono goes anyway . Chameleon is a better line for jigging, plug pulling, trolling, downriggers etc. and it might be just a hair stronger than UG. BUT it is Too stiff in my opinion for drift fishing. UG is a softer line that is much easier to cast and it has excellent knot strength when tied properly. I think both have very good abrasion resistance and low visibility.

Neither one of them is suitable for spinning in my opinion.

I'll have to agree with everything salmontackler just mentioned. UG is my #1 leader material for driftfishing and mooching leaders. On occasion I'll tie up a few 8lb leaders with Chameleon for those tea-colored streams like Pilchuck Creek and Goodman Creek.

I would have to agree with my compadres, Salmontackler and Hohwaiian. Under #8 chameleon is OK, but after that forget it!

I agree. We use chameleon fairly often in the early heavy flows during the spring, when our water looks like chocolate milk. Once the water starts to clear, forget it. Our fish are very line shy, and they won't even tolerate 6 pound chameleon. I call it chameleon in clear water, because it makes our invisible. Ultragreen is a softer line to work with, and doesn't bother our fish near as much as chameleon in clear water. Our fall kings will run from Chameleon. Neither one are worth a rip on a spinning reel in our weather conditions. I use the Excalibur for spinning reels with floats, and Utragreen on my baitcaster. The chameleon in 15 pound is used by a lot of guys as a shock tippet on their fatline. Hope this helps. Go Fish

I used Ultragreen for years and have no complaints. However, I like the new Crystal Ivory Maxima better for a couple of reasons.

First it's way cheaper (~$11.00 for 220 yds of Ultrgreen vs. ~$9.00 for 1,000 yds of Crystal Ivory), and I like the color better because it has better visiblity above the water, so you alway know exactly where you're line is.

I have also switched to green Izorline for leader material. It's more limp and is slightly weaker than the same strength Maxima. It allows you to use the same lb. test for your main and your leader; 12 and 12 instead of 12 and 10.

My wife and I,were fishing up to Nootka Sound a couple years ago with some friends up there,they were all catching fish we were catching nothing but a cold.We were useing the same bait fishing the exact same depth on our downriggers as they were but couldn't catch a thing.My friend came down to our boat as we were getting ready to go out for the evening bite saw that I had chameleon line and leader told me to get it off and put differant leader on gave me some ultragreen for leader I tied up some new leaders right away,WE WERE INTO FISH AND CAUGHT OUIR LIMIT of 4 FISH in two days only thing that changed was my leader color, there water is so clear up there the chameleon was spooking the fish.So needless to say all I put on my reels and leader is ultragreen,and those guys above are right maxima doesn't work well on spinning reels.I tried flourcarbon leaders this winter and had trouble with my knots breaking went back to maxima end of proplem.GOOD FISHING

hello peeps, i jus noticed that everyone and there mother uses maxima..i personally like using berkley trilene..anyone else use it..and whats the dif between trilene and maxima? strengh and visibility..?i tried maxima a few years back as leader material..and it kept gettin all frayed way to easy..so i stopped using it.jus my opionin..like everyone elses...g'day

First off with schitzo, if your maxima was constantly fraying, you must have had a bad batch. Chameleon is pretty durable stuff. I'll have to pretty much agree with all above. Except, I use a combo of both. I usually run nothing but Chameleon on my baitcasters up to my swivel/weight. Then, depending on water clarity, I'll either run chameleon or UG leaders. I've never had a problem with success rates doing it this way. I've found that most rivers I fish are filled with quite alot of snags. Usually it's your weight that snags. So having that abrasion resistance helps. Plus the low stretch helps set the hook. When the water is cloudy to a dark green I'll run the chameleon since they won't be seeing much anyhow. Once it starts getting a light green to gin clear out come the UG. I know a couple years ago some line company (I can't remember who but it's one of the superlines) ran an add about abrasion resistance and had names of other lines in comparison. Most lines failed after 1-2 rotations, berkleys' hit around 4 rotations on the machine, and maxima ran 32. The line in question did 100. It's in one of the fishing mags. The amount of fish I've landed on maxima pulling them through snag infested slots won't have me changing anytime soon. Just have to change the setup (maxima itself makes their custom tapered fly leaders with a chameleon butt tapered into an UG tippet) so that must say something also. That's my .02, if any of you want to give up the old chameleon, send it my way...just kidding. But I've used it along time w/o problems.

The line in question was "SULFIX TRITANIUM" and the article ws in an East coast saltwater fishing mazagine. I read the article and found the supplier in North Carolina. They make fishing line for many of the major line retailors, ie Berkley, Stren and the like who in turn put their name on it.They also make weed wacker line, tennis racket laceing and other nylon products. This Tritanium is the only line formula that they market under their own name. I have been using it for the last two years, I used to use MAXIMA U.G. for everything but now mainly use it for leaders only. (provides a bit extra stretch). The test in the mazagine was done by the author of the article and yes the Senergy out performed the U.G in abrassion resistance with a smaller line diameter and less stretch and lower memory than all other line. This line is a copolymer so the type of knots you use should change also. The polymer knot is the easiest to tie but you can't always use it. Anyway the line was being carried by Cabela' or Bass Pro shop but only in the clear, they also make a green that looks almost like Trilene. This line is mainly used on the East coast for saltwater fishing but there is one retailer in California. Retail opportunity available here for someone, when I spoke to the sales manager he said that he wanted to find a rep in the Northwest. P.S. the line is very inexpensive compared to Maxima. Less than $10.00 for a 1/4 lb spool
(1200 yards in 8# test).

Berkley boy for years I used trilene xt in 8# and 10# ,when on the coast or springer fishing I would go to the XL in 14# and liked it a lot. For the past 2 years I 've been using Ande flo green on my spinner and the tournament or regular on my bait caster, but I still use Maxima UG for my leaders old habits are hard to break... so is the Maxima, for the money the Ande is the stuff no complaints here ...my .02

Last year I tried Gamakatsu Co-Polymer line for my spining reel's. I've found this to be a outstanding line for spin fishing. I still use Maxima on my bait casting reel's.
