Howdy folks,

I'm doing some demographic research for a personal project and was hoping to get some assistance from you.
I'd like to know two things from float fishermen out there:

1. The general float weight range you typically use when targeting steelhead with a float reel.
2. Whether you primarily fish Western (W) rivers or Great Lakes (GL) tribs.

Here are the categories I'd like to use for selection:

1/16-1/4 (2-7g) GL
1/16-1/4 (2-7g) West
1/8-3/8 (4-11g) GL
1/8-3/8 (4-11g) West
1/4-1/2 (7-15g) GL
1/4-1/2 (7-15g) West
3/8-5/8 (11-20g) GL
3/8-5/8 (11-20g) West
1/2-3/4 (15-25g) GL
1/2-3/4 (15-25g) West
5/8-1 (20-30g) GL
5/8-1 (20-30g) West

Simply copy a line from the above list that best describes the general float size used for steelhead in either of the two regions provided. Then paste into your reply.

Hoping you find this interesting and instructive as well.
Thanks in advance for your help.

w no idea the size or weight. I either use fly casting bubbles (Danielson) or large cheaters.

I prefer to call my jig and bobber a nymph and strike indicator.

But for salmon (spring Chinook, Fall Chinook, or coho), I use nothing smaller than 1oz. But the survey was for steelhead, so my answer is 1/2-3/4oz.

I call them floats, but if you want to do another survey, ask how many folks call them "bobbers" or "floats".

3/8 90 percent of the time, its a very convenient size for a 1/8th jig. Just run a 1/4 lead on the mainline add jig and its aways balanced perfectly

1/2-3/4 (15-25g) West. Have it pretty well "dialed in", weight wise so I can use 1/8 to 1/32 jigs, with the float staying perpendicular to the flow of water.

Now 1/64 and 1/128 oz. causes some small problems.....might have to add a split shot or 2.

I added this picture.....floats on the left are 7" long and what I've been using the past 2 years.......

I know there are more cork soakin', dink dunkin', bobber doggin', float flingers out there, so come on, don't let the PNW be under represented in this poll. I need more samples and you don't even have to go to the clinic to contribute.

Thanks again for all your responses.

Listen up Brewer, Mr. Vedder wrote the book.
I was improperly taught bobber as well, but the correct term is float.

Reminds me of a head-beater argument I got into with my little brother once.
He said a wall was "out of level" when in fact it was "out of plumb".
He simply could not accept the phrase "out of plumb". Maybe he thought that was something a plumber should worry about.

I typically use a 20gr float 80% of the time.
