Has anyone fished with this rod? I've used the 1144 and the 1264 but thought this one might be a good compromise. I'll be using it for winter steelhead and spring/fall salmon out here on the peninsula.

Thanks!

I have one, Brad...not for dainty presentations, that's for sure, but I used it for dragging around worms and it worked great...I suspect it would be a pretty good medium weight float rod, too, if you were so inclined.

If I see you at any time in the near future I'll bring it along and you can check it out.

Fish on...

Todd

brad its my spoon rod, big fish whoop ass stick.
the 1144 is much softer in the mid section then the 1204 so its going to feel like it has heaps more power then the 1144, but in reality only a little bit really.

talk to karry batson or have chris ask him for the formula off my rod. i know how you like to chuck spoons and mine is designed for just that, a couple extra guides adding a little mass to the tip and slowing the action down to thump thump thump! doesnt hurt you what so ever if you want to double it up to float fish either.

the only thing you do not want to use the 1204 for is float and jig... if you do use it for that, back the drag off and dont use all the rod. i bent out some jigs on fish this year the 1 and only day i used it for float and jig. also snapped 12lb seaguar on a hook set... the rod has some power.

if you want to check mine out and feel it let me know.

FWIW, I do not like this rod as a spoon rod...too heavy for my tastes. I think it's rated as an 8-17 but it fishes more like a 10-17, or even a 10-20 to me.

Fish on...

its a 4 power, so its 10-17

and mine fishes a spoon like a dream. as does rogers.

better with a half ounce spoon or heavier for sure. 2/5ths is a little light for it to thump well, but i still worked the 2/5ths fine.

I fish it with a 9 wt weight forward floating line, quartering Bombers across the Cowlitz.

But to each their own.
