It's a wonder more rods aren't broken "on the set"......

Gotta agree with Sg.
Graphite rods were invented, in part, because graphite is really sensitive. Much more sensitive than fiberglass. But for some reason, every rod on the market is now made of graphite, regardless of whether sensitivity is necessary. For example, why do I need a sensitive rod if I'm float fishing? I don't need a senstive rod to tell me that my float just disappeared (i.e., fish on!). But yet all my float fishing rods are graphite because all float fishing rods on the market are graphite. Ditto for other techniques such as trolling and casting hardware. There is little or no reason to have a sensitive rod for these techniques. I agree you need it for drifting and back-bouncing. But past that, a fiberglass rod would be a better alternative.
It would be nice if, for example, LamiGlass would have more Glass and less Lami.

I can't understand how people break so many rods... I've slowed down my rod breaking activities, but I still go thru a few every year, at least. I did three in four days a few years ago up in northern BC and then fished with the same rod for the next two weeks without breaking it. Graphite is great for casting, great for fishing...fiberglass is great for fighting and landing fish. Fish on... Todd

That's funny! those bass fishermen setting the hook like that with their light rods and 65lb braid should know better! I have yet to break a rod on the water, but had a guy in my boat about 6 years ago highstick the rod on a 20lb chinook on one of the coastal estuaries. 2 minutes of hand line fighting that king on 30lb braid and we put that one in the boat!

Just so you'll know, you're supposed to hold it by the cork end........ This is coming from the guy whom after I broke one of my rods, told me that if rod builders wanted someone to grab a rod in the middle they would have put cork there. He's not wrong btw - its just funny.
