Does anyone know if there's any truth to the rumor that the Green will be open to fishing out of a boat this year? I heard that they are going to do away with the boat ban that they've had on it from Nov. 1 to Mar. 15.

You will be able to fish out of a boat from highway 18 up. Below 18 it will still be closed. Now the indians won't be the only ones!

Does anyone know who is proposing this? It works fine just the way it is.

I hear Palmer to Flaming Geyser is a nice drift... Have to agree with Rich, leave it the way it is.

yeah, palmer to flaming geyser is a nice drift, just a little bit tougher than the lower sky..only a few drops to worry about..

in all seriousness, I've hiked through quite a bit of that canyon and there's no way I would do that drift. a friend of mine who had considerable kayak experience would only go from palmer to the one way bridge. he said there were seom nasty drops at the top and some skinny sections up there.

but then again, if no one floats it the fishing has to be good...

Floating the canyon is not a wise idea, unless you are an olympic class swimmer, and have a driveway full of disposable drift boats.

Well, if it's true, then I think that it's about time. I'm sure you all know how limited the bank access is due to all the private property down along Green Valley Road. A lot of those folks don't want us crossing their property to get to the river(just like on the Nooch) for fear of having a bunch of garbage thrown all over their property. I don't mean to offend anyone, but we all know that the few that don't care ruin it for those that do care and don't trash up someone's property.

It's just my opinion that it's a good move, that's all.

Fish hard or go home!

I have floated the green from the headworks to allen town. you had better know how to rock pick real well and you will have to walk your boat around 4 spots in the upper green and you will want to float it with a little more flow than the summer flows or it could be BIG TROUBLE!!!!!!!

Opening the green to fishing out of boats will be short lived, the wfw will figure out this error and return the regulations. Feel lucky if you get one year of fishing out of boats. The river already sees to much pressure, now it will be a huge clusterf__k. I can't wait to see the faces of those who supported this move when 10 guides launch every morning.

Let's all hope that this new rule change won't bring the masses of boats back that we saw in earlier years on the green. The river/fishery certianly can't sustain that intense pressure anymore.
I can't say that we won't see increased guide activity associated with this new rule, but you would think that a guide would want better odds in his clients favor then what the Green has been able to provide in the past 10 years.

My concern isn't so much fishing from the boat as it is the liberal regulations applied to the native fisheries on the river. The river doesn't go to catch and release of natives until the last day of february.........2 weeks before the whole river closes. Unfortunately alot of anglers(I use that term loosely)still kill natives on that river. I believe, as most of the fisherman on this board do, that catch and release of natives should be year round on all washington rivers.Though the Green still has a decent run of natives I think the loosening of the regulations will hurt the fishery in the end.

Well said jigman, I couldn't agree more. Although I think that a good part of the Green's success is do in part because of the non-boat fishing regs.. The river has a tremendous amount of spawning ground that can't be fishd by bank anglers(trees from bank to bank). This spawning ground will be negated with the new regulations, plug pullers and boondogers will kill these spawning areas. I think that the new regulations are a terrible idea and I couldn't disagree with them more.
BTW the drift form palmer to flaming geyser is very easy and loaded with fish, give it a try.

Love, salmontackler
