I attened my southwest anglers meeting last night 4-20-00 and our president reported on a meeting he attended (PFMC) and he reported to us THERE WILL BE NO FALL CHINOOK FISHING ON THE COLUMBIA OR ITS TRIBTARIES THIS YEAR (THE ELOCOMAN IS THE ONLY TRIB. WHERE WE CAN FISH CHINOOK),something to do with the INDIAN ALLOTMENT ?????I couldn't believe this I kept asking what does the washougal or lewis or any of these other tribs have to do with the fishing above the dam.The fish returning to theses rivers belong in these rivers there not upriver fish

I ran out of room so I'm posting a reply to my own posting.There is going to be a lawsuit filed in the next two weeks against the indians on this.The answer I got to my questions was on upriver brights not getting thru so the indians can get there fair share
B.S..I'm sick and tired of hearing about there fishing and hunting rights,and of us again being the ones to give up our fishing rights.Oh yea the gillnetters got there seaseon and an a possible ext. so they can get there fish.WHAT ABOUT US ?????

I know how you feel. I had the same feeling when they first started netting. THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT !!!!!! The feds are on thier side. If the feds let them take whales whats a salmon!! You are wasting your time!!!

It may look hopeless, but we can't give up!!

As far as the washougal river goes there is NO viable chinook fishery on it. it is loaded with tule fall chimnook that are dark by the time they reach the mouth of the river and 100% of the successful angling for them is snagging!!!
These fish DO not bite at all not even bait!. these fish enter the river the first rain of september and the water is extremely low then the fish stack up in pools and are snagged. there is NO viable chinook fishery there.
thes run is a complete waste of time and money and should be discontinued.
I have lived on the washougal all of my life and fished these chinooks every year for 20 years and never caught one that was hooked fair!!! NOT ONE!!
if someone tells you about good chinook fishing on the washougal they are a snagger no ifs ands or buts.
