Seattle City Council doesn't want to be upstaged by that hovel of Tacoma paying the Tacoma Power Sup. $309,000. Therefore Jorge merits a raise because he's the sup. of the Emerald City Light utility. Some of you guys act like you don't understand how the executive merit system works. How the hell else do you think CEOs that run companies into the ground can be paid multi millions? It doesn't have much to do with how good you are at running a business or agency or utility.

Oh, for goodness gracious SG, most people, understand the inflationary pressure that comes from trying to hire the best talent. But somehow on this board it's alright to overpay 'civil servants' but damn to Hell the Corporate management team.

Our socialist councilwoman is fine condemning this but is arm and arm with the local union leaders who earn comparable wages.

I still think it has more to do with not being upstaged by blue collar Tacoma paying its utility superintendent more than Seattle pays theirs. It takes a lot of technical and managerial talent for management positions in both utilities, but at the superintendent level, the main talent required is placating city politicians.

Well of coarse he does. While Carrasco may not be the brightest bulb, he really does care.

No wonder Carrasco wants his image scrubbed. No doubt the flim-flammers are good at what they do, but there are several layers of City Light bureaucracy that should have balked at doing it "immediately." City Light, like all good bureaucracies, doesn't do ANYTHING immediately. Poor Jorge, he got scammed good.

But Seattle, being the good natured city that it is - the Seattle freeze notwithstanding - will probably let him have his raise anyway. How else to show up Tacoma?
