I was wondering if maybe some of you guys in southwest WA. or Oregon could answer a few questions? I'm a homebuilder/framer who really enjoys fishing the Kalama R. and want to move towards that area. Is there any new homes/developments that anyone knows about or maybe some contractors/fisherman that could point me in the right direction? I've heard that the Battleground area or also the Camas area might be possibilities? I think the Camas area is close to the Washougal R. How's that river for fishing? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. J.P.

I'd look in the Ridgefield area, thats north of Vancouver, a farming community. It's still close to the major house building areas of northern Vancouver and Battle ground, and not too far from some great fishing water, plus the Kalama is not that far.

Best of luck.....

Hello,I live in washougal, its growing in leaps and bounds,as far as fishing the washougal not what it used to be by a long shot it still has winter steehead and summer steelhead and fall chinook and silvers but not in the quantities of old.We do get a decent fall salmon run if they would let us fish it.We have good sturgeon fishing here if you have a boat even off the bank,I do off the bank at bonniville dam, they do catch them off a fishing dock right by the town.I honestly believe the kalama has a better fishery as far as steelhead and spring salmon of which the washougal has none, its also better fished from a boat(drift),I've only fished it that way,I don't know about bank fishing,I understand its good also.Hope this helps. From what I've read on this post tho the area up on the sound has a lot more rivers and better fishing.

Half hour from the Cowlitz & Toutle. 45 min. from Riffe. 45 min from the columbia out of Longview, one hour & 45 min from the mouth Of the Columbia & the Naselle. 3 & a half hours from Tillamook Bay...And the taxes aren't too bad either.
