FF02: You mean those places are more scary to fish than the trailer park on the sop? smile Just kidding man! I have seen some brawls there...but half of those had nothing to do with fishing, usually someones wife sleeping with the neighbor or some member of their extended family. You know...normal trailer park stuff.

The skok I know is secluded, peaceful, and nothing but bait fisherman

It is a shame what the lower Skok has become.
I'm gratefully I got to fish and experience the canal rivers back in their glory days. Lots of good memories.

Fished the 'Squally this morning around 9AM to Noon. Nothing's going on over there. I heard of 1 fish being caught earlier in the morning and that's about it. Appearently, the tribe got skunked, too.

they just aren't in there yet for some reason. if they are just late, remains to be seen. i know a big run was predicted for this year. i usually don't do consistently well until mid august usually, but it's weird to not even see anything rolling yet.

there were seals in almost every hole i anchored up in thursday afternoon though. i would've figured they'd be chasing something around.

Drifted eggs for about 4 hours on Sunday. Nothing. I saw 2 fish roll. Trout everywhere, tho. Take your kids out there and just drift night crawlers. It'd be a good way to teach river fishing to youngsters.

I question the use of bait for trout on a river with a 12 inch minimum, sounds like a lot of dead trout to come up with two legal ones. Lots of local lakes that would fit the bill better. bob r

If your looking to get the cutties I'd throw a small Cleo or kastmaster. They will hit those just as good if not better than bait. A friend fished it in the lower river for kings last week and got his two. Still real slow though. Steelhead has been keeping me occupied so I havnt had the need to chase salmon yet.

Bob, I hear u bud. But, they are so thick in numbers even if u r not targeting them you are still gonna a catch a few. As far as I m concerned we can use bait down stream from the tank bridge regardless of species we are fishing for. That being said, I caught 2 on Sunday( they actually hooked them selves) and both released unharmed. I live up near Mc Kenna and c&r trout all day drifting flies with a small weight, using spinning gear( can't use a fly rod because of my injuries). Also, while drifting worms, one can hook into one of those big ugly suckers and we both know that they fight like hell:)

I know that bait's legal in that section, I think I would swap out trebles for siwash or sickle hooks on a small spinner or spoon, you can catch and release all day.the larger (1, 1/0) hooks do quite well and keep the smaller ones from even hooking up. Helps improves the young ones casting abilities as well. And we all know the thrill of catching fish on hardware.Makes the fooling that much sweeter. Good fishing! Bob R

Good point! As a matter of fact, I use long shank hooks when I use bait for trout. I find it much easier to release the fish and almost all hook ups are in the jaw area. If the trout sucked the whole thing in, it's best to just to cut the line then release.

Slabhunter, I have tried everything including home made spoons on Sunday. I have some projects going on around the house and that's why I m fishing waters near by. In September, I'll be camping near Humptulips smile It's just very concerning to me that the kings are not playing this year in Nisqually.
