Couple of months ago guy next door calls and said there is yote in my front yard sleeping in the shrubs next to my driveway. Inside the city limits and too many homes too get out the big artillery. Just left it, was hoping it would scare the crap out some the local yappers (little dogs that bark all day and most of the night).

Typical inter-city coyote behavior. Lying around in the schrubs looking for a piece of meat. When they don't get that, they start walking the streets looking for some action.
There are generally a few packs near Walmarts. Quite a few on the railroad tracks between Golden Gardens and Edmonds.

Just left it, was hoping it would scare the crap out some the local yappers (little dogs that bark all day and most of the night). I have a buddy in Oceanside whose wife had one of those yappers. They let it out in their back yard one night and a Wile E Coyote had it for din-din. that's why having yotees in the burbs can be a good thing. they keep the yapper numbers low and in check.

News Flash! They're everywhere...no predators for the most part. I've probably seen 500 in the last two years around our hood. Day time, night time. I had one walk up to me as I was walking my dog in the after noon....he looked really sick. Also seen many Pups with Mom.

We have some acreage near the Canadian border in north central Washington. Cool to hear the yotes howling at night. We do see them at times, exhibit some funny behavior at times. The bears and moose give me more concern.

"Sad when man builds his concrete jungle and forces the natives to live in its boundaries."
Coyotes have expanded their range since development has moved into their habitat. Since wolves preyed on coyotes, their absence in areas has allowed the coyote to move east and north. The litters can be as many as 19 with 50-60% not making it to adulthood. A young coyote got stuck in the elevator in the Seaattle federal building a couple of years ago. What this all means is that there are a lot of frickin' coyotes that need grub.
EBob- Is your property near Chesaw?

The July 4th rodeo & other events in Chesaw used to be rowdy. When the Friday street dance shut down early one year, a sheriff's car was almost turned over. Coyotes there too.

The new owner of the tavern kind of ruined the atmosphere when they remodeled it a few years ago. I only go to Chesaw now when its not the 4th of July. I go to that area to get away from all the people and nonsense here. Wish the drive was not so far.

Back up here at North Central Wa again. Yotes are singing tonite, real close by. Seen lots of deer, turkey, not moose or bears tho. Went for a long ATV ride today but stayed away from the border. July when we were here rode up to the border out in the middle of nowhere which we have done many times over the years. In July the B.P. seemed to track our movements as they were waiting for us wherever we went. Never pulled us over or even waved ( they just about always wave). Got the tree stands set up. See what happens tomorrow.

Lots of Yotes in these here parts. Had some in the yard the other night on a fresh rabbit kill and they woke up the city girl GF. She asked what was I going to do about it and I rolled over and went back to bed.
That being said, I have a Short Tailed Weasel / Stoat creeping about. The neighbors chickens are just about besides themselves. Talk about little murdering, thieving bastards. Anyone got a solution besides a hatchet?

"Anyone got a solution besides a hatchet?" Well, Eastern gray squirrels are my burden in life. They're chasing out the local Douglas squirrels & trying to get in my attic. I thinned the herd with a live trap, a chainsaw & a plastic tarp. Learned that from an old trapper in the Okanogan. He used his car exhaust.

Havahart live trap. Use a can of tuna or chicken meat for bait. They are curious so easy to trap. They are considered fur bearers so you need a permit to Deal with them legally. I have a long tail weasel living in a wood pile . Love watching it. Turn him loose way way back in the woods near water . They drink a lot.

Weasels are cool. I agree with the live trap- find out how he is getting in and put it in the path. You can create obstructions to funnel him towards the trap if necessary. These previous baits are good but I can recommend cat food, leftover sand shrimp, peanut butter and raw chicken as well. Sometimes you just have to mix it up until you figure out what they want... If you don't catch him the first night, try changing baits. *permit*

The pic of the bear was taken in a no hunting area and was no threat to anyone, pretty funny he was right behind the target. We have seen other bears wandering thru the property. Later that morning my son was in his tree stand in the National Forest about 15' up and a bear came snooping around two times at the base of the tree he was in, stayed for 15 minutes. As he had used some scent to attract deer he could not take a shot, the bear seemed to see him but was not threatening. He felt that he had several good opportunities to drop him but decided not to because of the scent he had used. He was pretty pumped up.

Coming off the BI ferry on 305 about 6:15 tonight, as we reached High School Road, a young coyote ran from newly cleared property, across the road & into a McDonald's parking lot. He looked well fed.
