Posh II, with all respect to Chris' senior trip, I'm more interested in how and where you bought $183 roundtrip tickets to Anchorage. Any Internet deals we should know of? Thanks.

Snagly......we still trust Alaska. About a month ago we went right to Alaska Airlines on the net. We go every summer and we've never had that good of a price. There have been good prices off and on and I think you have to be sure to check over what they are offering. And recheck. My husband couldn't find the prices right away. Someone else had to make a flight there and told us. Maybe we could post when someone sees an offering. Three out of five trips have been in August and we've never been sorry. Gorgeous weather has always been there for us. Husband is up there right now fishing with Bob and tomorrow will seek the halibut. Actually, that's the guys' trip, but I wish when our kids were younger, we had taken them to Alaska....if the wife doesn't want to fish, then let her clean clams! And take her to lunch at Halibut Cove across Kamechak Bay. (Spelling???)And I could go on and on. That's why I thought if someone were giving Chris a gift....don't use a travel agent, be satisfied without flying"in", don't worry if you don't have a luxury bed once in a while, great campgrounds, get a copy of the travel book from the Anchorage Chamber and fly right!

Chris,
How'd your baseball team do? I graduate in June and hopefully i can come up with enough money for a boat. Might get a summer job in Alaska next summer. I guess some of those places pay really good and the fishing is world class.

My parents say that money isn't really a problem. I was thinking about a lodge or something. I would really like to fish in a river in a driftboat. And have a lodge were I can go and fish when I am not in the boat or if my dad gets tired. Another idea is to just stay here in lovely Washington and get a guide for 2 or 3 days and have them teach me how to row my driftboat correctly and learn the rivers in Washington.

Loomie- Bud long time no talk. The Baseball team did great. We won league and we made it to the State Playoffs but lost in the first round. Oh well now back to fishing. We should go fishing this summer sometime. In the classifieds there is a 14ft boat for $1000. who knows. Where are you going to College? I am going to lovely Central Washington University. Cool, well, this weekend i might go do the Cowlitz.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Chris,
You might be better served by doing the latter, that is, getting a guide to teach you the ropes. Sure, you can catch fish in large numbers, and have a great time at a lodge, but ( I hope I'm not stomping on your toes now, Bob) by hiring someone to teach you the ins and outs of rowing and fishing, you'll be ready to get serious this fall and winter. Being observant while being guided is one of the best ways to learn to become a successful angler.
If you end up going to AK, I'm sure (relatively) you won't be disappointed as long as you get well outside of Anchorage. But think how much use you'd get out of being able to navigate your local streams without fearing for your life. My vote goes to hiring a guide on a river you intend to fish frequently.
Good luck with your decision.
Fish on............

Chris- Last year for my senior trip I got to go to the Deschutes for summer runs. Even though we hit it when the fish were playing hooky and got skunked, the senery and weather cannot be beat. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to go either. You could do a 2 week trip for under $400 really eisy. Very easy river to read and fish with either fly or gear. You would have a blast. We went the 1st week of September and the weather was great! Got into the 90's one day. Congratulations on graduation! Give me a yell if your ever-up this way (Sauk, Skagit, Stilly, Skykomish Rivers) and we could maybe get together. Always looking for someone my age to fish with. All my friends that I fish with are in their 30's of 40's and it would be nice to fish with someone my own age. If the Deschutes idea sounds good, email me and I could give you some more specific details, when, where, etc.
