The Sleds i can see and it is about time, especially past the west fork launch; but are they really going to ban drift boats? Not that I have one...but I know people that do and I don't think they will stop using them from decker to the west fork launch regardless of a rule change.

Can someone provide proof?

I saw the announcement about sport reg meetings. They supposedly limited proposals to the East Side. So, the only Public Meeting west of the Crest is in Vancouver. And they put this in with no public meeting nearby??

The Satsop and the Nootch shouldn't allow sleds. Those rivers are too small and those sleds definitely cause erosion and damage that wouldn't be there if the sleds were banned. Let them tear up the Cowlitz it's already a mess. I had a 20+ pound silver hooked on a fly and was starting to get the best of it and some dumb ass ran over my fly line and good by silver. There were maybe 4 people there watching the epic fight and all were yelling at the dude to slow down and wait but he just went on through. The water level was borderline for a sled as well which gave him no way to go around.

I'd be all for keeping the sleds in the lower river on those those streams...especially the Satsop where I've had 20 foot sleds blow by me four feet away all the way up above the Turnow Branch, and they had to be four feet from me because the damn river was only 25 feet wide.

That being said...WDFW cannot "ban sleds" from up there, only the County can do that, so you won't see it in any WDFW Rule Proposals.

That's why I said this:

...reason being why it's not a "well known regulation" is that it doesn't exist.

Exactly.

The idea's been broached a few times the last decade by the county. I think there was even a signature gathering effort at one point but the commissioners don't want to touch it…..probably sled owners themselves.

Both rivers desperately need lower river restrictions. I'll believe it when I see it.

I was told by a commissioner that the reason they voted it down was because of enforcement problems and costs

I think they cannot ban a sled, but they can ban the use of an internal combustion engine, which would essentially eliminate the use of a sled. They have done it on the Humptulips above 101 from Dec 1 to March 31 starting some years back. There are several rivers that they have even banned the ability to fish from a flotation device (sections of Willapa, Wynoochee above the 7400 up until a couple of years ago.) Someone merely needs to propose it as a rule change, provide a justification, and gain support. It can happen, but I don't think it will on the Satsop or Wynoochee.

They can definitely ban fishing from a floating device equipped with a motor, or fishing from a floating device at all, but it wouldn't stop somone from running up there in a sled and dropping the anchor and casting, or getting out and casting.

Fish on...

Problem that I see........

bankies and drift boat want to have what THEY want 365 days a year....

Let's flat out face it.....both Wynoochee and Satsop.....there is lot's of time during 10/01 - 3/31 of EVERY year where the rivers in question can BEST be fished from a sled, reason.....just too much water !!!!!!!!

I've had no sleds "blow by me" all summer long.......many drift boats go right over the hole, when bank people are fishing... when they COULD row behind.....and then have the balls to fish all the way thru the hole......fishing thru the hole....does tend to piss me off !!!!!!!!

I think it is the same as in a lake that bans internal combustion engines, they may be able to run and bank fish, but not sit on the anchor and fish. It would certainly cut down dramatically on sled pressure as I doubt many would bother. Those that did would be battling the anglers already confined to the bank in the few spots that have any bank access. I still don't see it happening

I think I will make a proposal to ban anyone with a tattoo, piercing, gauge, or hair longer than neck length (on a male) from fishing the nooch and satsop on any month that has an "r" in it.
