Last I checked they were counting between 8000 and 14,000 shad a day going over Bonneville,so I guess now would be a good time, below the dam is good spot, they will hit a fly and do well on jigs , be careful they are a little tender in the mouth...Good Luck

I just looked at the numbers for today. Just under 27,000. I plan on giving it a try in a few weeks. never seen a shad in my life but they sound fun.

Went to Bonneville last year the end of june first time for shad using a jig and a noodle rod they feel like a small steelie worth the trip but I would wait till the numbers are higher to insure lots of hookups

The Willamette has been very productive. Last weekend we had nearly constant action on shad and even hit a springer. I don't know about the columbia, but you should be able to stay very busy in oregon city.

I'm heading to the Willamette this weekend for Shad & Springers. Any advice on tackle & location for Shad? In the past I've used Dick Nites with a dropper weight.

Thanks,

Last sring we fished the Willamette also ,we used dick nites and a dropper color didn't seem to matter with brass and orange being the most popular,on a noodle rod these fish are great fun...tigt lines

Last weekend we did well on both dick nite, and grubs. The dick nites were nickel/green butt, and Brass/Chart butt, grubs were chart on a 1/32 head. The key I found last week was a fairly long dropper. About 4' the springer was caught on the grub, lami norwest special, 12lb ultragreen mainline and leader, talk about a kick. We were fishing the garbage pit hole, in about the middle of the river. Hope this helps.
